Angio-and phlebography, as well as pathomorphological studies were made on epiphyseal cartilaginous plate, diaphyseal bone tissue and skin of patients with partial gigantism of upper extremities. Significant developmental anomalies were found in the formation of palmar arches and digital arteries, as well as hypoplasia and aplasia of deep brachial and antebrachial veins. Light and electron microscopy revealed epiphyseal plate dystrophy and dysplasia, tubular bone osteoporosis, subcutaneous fat hyperplasia. The data obtained suggest a pathogenetic relationship between the vascular formation and…

AIM: The aim of this case series is to report two cases of giant cavernomas treated at a tertiary level centre along with a literature review on the differences between giant cavernomas and normal sized cavernomas.
METHOD: The first case was that of a 13-year-old male with habitual seizures since one year of age with normal examination findings. His imaging revealed a large parieto-occipital lesion which was excised microsurgically after a parieto-occipital craniotomy and a transcortical approach. The second case was a 26-year-old male who presented with generalised seizures and bilateral vis

INTRODUCTION: Excess dilatation of the left atrium >65 mm is known in the literature as gigantic atrium. This dilation is most commonly encountered in the mitral insufficiency of rheumatic etiology, but also in severe prolapses of the mitral valve, permanent atrial fibrillation, and at the left right shunt with cardiac insufficiency.
CASE REPORT: In this paper is presented a case study of echocardiographically verified giant thrombus in left atrium in a 50 years old female patient aged 50 hospitalized because of tiredness, choking, heartburn and urinary tract symptoms. The patient had rheumat

A diagnostic and therapeutic approach in the identification of malignant lesions and the types of HPV in 11 patients with gigantic condylomatous vulvar protuberances is presented. Different histological types of squamous cell vulvar carcinoma have been found in 8 (72.7%) cases: condylomatous (4), verrucous (3) and basaloid type of the carcinoma (1). HPV type 16, confirmed in 5 cases, was most often present (4 condylomatous and 1 basaloid carcinoma types). Other types of HPV such as HPV-6 was detected in 3 cases of verrucous, type 11 in 2 cases of verrucous and condylomatous carcinoma and type

We report the case of a boy with a gigantic aneurysm in the thoraco-abdominal region which was detected by a chest X-ray taken prior to surgical correction of ptosis of the eyelids at 11 months of age. At 18 months, he successfully underwent aneurysm exclusion and bypass grafting. A biopsy from the thoracic aorta revealed medial degeneration with conspicuous smooth muscle cell involvement. Laboratory examination showed altered elastase activity in the granulocytes and whole blood. The present case may represent a unique form of aneurysm in infancy.

PURPOSE/METHODS: We examined the ocular features in a two-generation family with Sotos syndrome (cerebral gigantism). Sotos syndrome is characterized by excessive growth in prenatal and early life, advanced bone age, and typical facial features.
RESULTS/CONCLUSION: One patient had presenile nuclear sclerotic cataracts, megalophthalmos, hypoorbitism, and exotropia. One of her daughters had megalocornea, exophoria, and iris hypoplasia. Her other daughter had megalocornea. The ophthalmologist can play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of Sotos syndrome.

Two boys are presented with the clinical features of cerebral gigantism and chromosomal variants which have not been described so far in this syndrome. In the first boy a de novo pericentric inversion of chromosome Y was found, the karyotypes of all other investigated family members were normal. The patient had an obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and atrial septal defect type II. The second boy had inherited pericentric inversion of the heterochromatic region of chromosome 9 from his mother. This chromosome 9 variant was also found in his sister who had a similar phenotype but without g…

Eleven children with cerebral gigantism or Sotos' syndrome were assessed regarding their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral status. The children demonstrated high rates of emotional and behavioral disorders, but no specific pattern or personality style was detected. On the cognitive assessments, all of the children presented with cognitive impairment or mental retardation, the range of which was variable. As with other syndromes associated with developmental delay, there was a wide range of expression of problems.

A congenital disorder with variable manifestations, including partial gigantism of the hands and feet with hypertrophy of soles, nevi, hemihypertrophy, gynecomastia, macrocephaly and other skull abnormalities, and abdominal lipomatosis. The cause is unknown, although a genetic origin, generally of autosomal-dominant transmission, has been conjectured. Symptoms can be treated, but there is no known cure. We present the case of a young male with grotesque overgrowth of the right lower limb, splenomegaly and multiple nevi. Angiography revealed venous malformation within the limb. The findings are…
