Partner support, communication and family planning choices among Nigerian women: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Partner involvement plays a critical role in shaping women's contraceptive choices, yet evidence on its influence remains limited in Nigeria, where contraceptive prevalence is low. This study explored how partner support and communication affect women's family planning decisions. METHODS: A descriptive phenomenological qualitative study was conducted over 6 weeks at the family planning clinic of a tertiary healthcare facility in southwest Nigeria, using in-depth interviews, with data analysed through inductive thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke's six-step framework. Successful proof of concept of family planning and immunization integration in Liberia.

Globally, unmet need for postpartum family planning remains high, while immunization services are among the most wide-reaching and equitable interventions. Given overlapping time frames, integrating these services provides an opportunity to leverage existing health visits to offer women more comprehensive services. From March through November 2012, Liberia's government, with support from the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP), piloted an integrated family planning and immunization model at 10 health facilities in Bong and Lofa counties. Vaccinators provided mothers bringing i

Addressing individual differences in mobility transition counseling with older adults.

In the final phase of a 3-phase project, the Assessment of Readiness for Mobility Transition (ARMT) was clinically validated, emphasizing assessment/intervention. ARMT and coping, health/vision status, and social support measures were administered to 133 community-dwelling older adults. Concurrent validity is supported. Higher readiness to cope with mobility transition and self-confidence related to fall risk, higher self-rated health/vision, and fewer maladaptive behaviors, but not social support/adaptive coping, suggesting that those at risk can benefit from person-centered intervention to m

The role of primary health care services to better meet the needs of Aboriginal Australians transitioning from prison to the community.

BACKGROUND: Aboriginal Australians are more likely than other Australians to cycle in and out of prison on remand or by serving multiple short sentences-a form of serial incarceration and institutionalisation. This cycle contributes to the over-representation of Aboriginal Australians in prison and higher rates of recidivism. Our research examined how primary health care can better meet the health care and social support needs of Aboriginal Australians transitioning from prison to the community. METHODS: Purposive sampling was used to identify 30 interviewees. Twelve interviews were with Abor

Context trees: representing co-operative healthcare activities in IREP.

The IREP Project is based on the concept of 'rehabilitation programme' (LLP--Life Long Programme). It consists in a global vision of the patient's therapeutic-rehabilitative path, that is realised by the description, selection, adaptation and evaluation of generalised protocols. This paper discusses the issues arising in the definition of multidisciplinary rehabilitation programmes involving the co-operation of independent teams. A methodology to formalise and collect descriptions of programmes is presented. A programme is considered as a set of interconnected activities, represented as a grap

Heard and valued: the development of a model to meaningfully engage marginalized populations in health services planning.

BACKGROUND: Recently, patient engagement has been identified as a promising strategy for supporting healthcare planning. However, the context and structure of universalistic, "one-size-fits-all" approaches often used for patient engagement may not enable diverse patients to participate in decision-making about programs intended to meet their needs. Specifically, standard patient engagement approaches are gender-blind and might not facilitate the engagement of those marginalized by, for example, substance use, low income, experiences of violence, homelessness, and/or mental health challenges-hi

Prioritizing congenital syphilis control in south China: a decision analytic model to inform policy implementation.

BACKGROUND: Syphilis is a major public health problem in many regions of China, with increases in congenital syphilis (CS) cases causing concern. The Chinese Ministry of Health recently announced a comprehensive 10-y national syphilis control plan focusing on averting CS. The decision analytic model presented here quantifies the impact of the planned strategies to determine whether they are likely to meet the goals laid out in the control plan. METHODS AND FINDINGS: Our model incorporated data on age-stratified fertility, female adult syphilis cases, and empirical syphilis transmission rates

Achievements of the Iranian family planning programmes 1956-2006.

Family planning programmes initiated in the Islamic Republic of Iran from 1966 met with limited success. Following the 1986 census family planning was considered a priority and was supported by the country's leaders. Appropriate strategies based on the principles of health promotion led to an increase in the contraceptive prevalence rate among married women from 49.0% in 1989 to 73.8% in 2006. This paper reviews the family planning programmes in the Islamic Republic of Iran and their achievements during the last 4 decades and discusses the principles of health promotion and theories of behavio

Implementation strategy for data-driven surgical systems: a South African perspective.

Surgical care is essential to achieving universal health coverage, yet many African low-income, lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) and upper-middle-income countries - including South Africa-struggle to harness healthcare data for surgical system strengthening. Despite global advocacy efforts and the adoption of surgical indicators such as perioperative mortality rate and surgical volume, fragmented routine health information systems, limited human resource capacity and siloed data architecture hinder effective, data-informed planning and policy. Drawing on a South African case study, this h

Implementation of the Every Newborn Action Plan: Progress and lessons learned.

Progress in reducing newborn mortality has lagged behind progress in reducing maternal and child deaths. The Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) was launched in 2014, with the aim of achieving equitable and high-quality coverage of care for all women and newborns through links with other global and national plans and measurement and accountability frameworks. This article aims to assess country progress and the mechanisms in place to support country implementation of the ENAP. A country tracking tool was developed and piloted in October-December 2014 to collect data on the ENAP-related national m
