[Case study of ruptured gastroduodenal artery aneurysm revealed by hematemesis].

Gastroduodenal artery aneurysm is a rare vascular lesion, asymptomatic in the majority of cases. However, ruptured aneurysm is associated with poor prognosis and mortality can achieve a 40% rate. We here report the case of an 83-year-old patient with abrupt onset of non-specific abdominal pain associated with hematemesis. Endoscopy showed beating formation compressing the duodenal bulb with active bleeding. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan was performed which objectified gastro duodenal artery aneurysms involving the artery ostium and making endovascular treatment impossible to perform.…

A rare case of hematemesis following gastro-duodenal strongyloides infection.

We report the case of a 30-year old Black African man with a two-year history of nausea, abdominal discomfort and pruritus due to infection with Strongyloides stercoralis, which was successfully treated, but then complicated by the development of a bleeding pseudo-tumor in the duodenum. A review of the literature was performed.

Congenital Absence of Portal Vein Presenting With Hematemesis in a Young Patient.

Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is caused by multiple different etiologies, with one being portal hypertension. Identifying the underlying cause of portal hypertension is extremely important in determining further management. This is a rare case of a patient who had developed portal hypertension secondary to a congenital absence of a portal vein with no other medical history. This case highlights a rare cause of portal hypertension and the need for prompt medical management.

Hematemesis as an Initial Presentation of Enteropathy-Associated T-Cell Lymphoma.

Enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) is a tumor of intraepithelial T-lymphocytes arising in the small intestine. Based on the genetic profile, immunohistochemistry, and histology, EATL is divided into two subtypes. EATL type I occurs in individuals with celiac disease (CD) while EATL type II is a sporadic form that occurs in individuals without CD. Intensive chemotherapy and surgery are the mainstay treatment. However, despite the currently available treatment options, the five-year survival rate is only 9%. EATL presents as abdominal pain, nausea, or slow gastrointestinal bleeding. S

Jejunogastric intussusception presented with hematemesis: a case presentation and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Jejunogastric intussusception (JGI) is a rare but potentially very serious complication of gastrectomy or gastrojejunostomy. To avoid mortality early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention is mandatory. CASE PRESENTATION: A young man presented with epigastric pain and bilous vomiting followed by hematemesis,10 years after vagotomy and gastrojejunostomy for a bleeding duodenal ulcer. Emergency endoscopy showed JGI and the CT scan of the abdomen was compatible with this diagnosis. At laparotomy a retrograde type II, JGI was confirmed and managed by reduction of JGI without intes…

Isolated gastric tuberculosis presenting as massive hematemesis: report of a case.

Tuberculous involvement of the stomach is rare. We report herein the unusual case of a 25-year-old man in whom a benign gastric ulcer was found along the lesser curvature after he presented with massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Histopathological examination helped to confirm a diagnosis of tuberculosis. The granulomas typical of tuberculosis were caseation with epithelioid and giant cells. The patient was successfully treated by a combination of appropriate surgical therapy and prompt institution of antituberculosis medication.

[Ganglio-esophageal fistula revealed by hematemesis: a rare complication of silicotuberculosis].

We report a case of fistula between a silicotic mediastinal lymph node and the esophagus with protrusion of a stiff and darkish concretion into the oesophageal lumen. The patient, a 68-year-old coal miner, presented with cough since a few months and the lesion was revealed by haematemesis. The general course was rapidly favourable. Association with tuberculosis was recognized only a few months later.

Heart of glass: fatal hematemesis caused by bronchiole-cardiac fistula.

A 58-year old woman presented for autopsy after having been found unresponsive in a public bathroom surrounded by a pool of blood. During attempts at resuscitation, blood was noted in her airway. She had a past medical history that included surgical repair of Tetralogy of Fallot as a child. At autopsy, a shard of glass was identified projecting from the surface of the left lung, having formed densely fibrotic adhesions at the pleural surface. The glass also penetrated through a bronchiole lumen and into a previously surgically repaired bulging right ventricular outflow tract, forming a bronchi

Splenic artery pseudoaneurysm presenting as massive hematemesis: a diagnostic dilemma.

Introduction. Splenic artery Pseudoaneurysm, a complication of chronic pancreatitis, presenting as massive hematemesis is a rare presentation. Case Report. We present a case of 38-year-old male admitted with chief complaints of pain in the upper abdomen and massive hematemesis for the last 15 days. On examination there was severe pallor. On investigating the patient, Hb was 4.0 gm/dL, upper GI endoscopy revealed a leiomyoma in fundus of stomach, and EUS Doppler also supported the UGI findings. On further investigation of the patient, CECT of the abdomen revealed a possibility of distal pancrea…

Congenital duodenal obstruction associated with Down's syndrome presenting with hematemesis.

Congenital duodenal obstruction is usually characterized by onset of early vomiting due to high bowel obstruction. Presentation of congenital duodenal obstruction with acute gastrointestinal bleeding is very uncommon. We present an unusual case of congenital intrinsic duodenal obstruction associated with the Down's syndrome presenting with hematemesis secondary to duodenitis. This is a rare presentation of congenital duodenal obstruction associated with Down's syndrome in addition to seven cases previously reported in the English literature.

Recurrent Hematemesis From Downhill Esophageal Varices: A Therapeutic Challenge for Gastroenterologists.

Downhill or upper esophageal varices have an etiology that differs from that of the "uphill" varices secondary to portal hypertension. Appro … leeding is dialysis catheter-associated SVC stenosis. We report the case of a 34-year-old male with hematemesis associated with downhill varices due to chronic SVC obstruction because of a central venous catheter.
