We present a case of urinary bladder fistulization which occurred approximately 25 yr after successful radiation therapy for uterine carcinoma. The extensive fistulas were detected with 111In-oxine-labeled white blood cell scintigraphy and were confirmed with a fistulogram, computed tomography and surgery. Scintigraphy was valuable for both initial detection as well as staging the extent of inflammation for subsequent diagnostic studies and surgical resection.

A retrospective study of 132 indium 111 labeled leukocyte scans on 129 patients was undertaken to determine the incidence and significance of activity in the neck, axilla, and groin suggestive of regional lymph nodes. Intracardiac thrombi can be localized and quantified by indium-111-labelling of thrombocytes with a high sensitivity and specificity. The scintigraphic procedure has a complementary evidence to echocardiography. Scintigraphy shows activity and age of thrombosis, whereas echocardiography seems to be superior in determination of mass and localization. In older thrombi scintigraphy fails because of organisation and endothelialization of the thrombus surface. For the reason of determination of the age of an intraventricular thrombus this method might have an increasing acceptance.

Twenty-seven patients with Crohn's disease were studied for the presence and location of activity by both early (4 h) and delayed (18-24 h) indium 111 leukocyte imaging. The results were compared with other parameters of disease activity including Crohn's disease activity index, barium studies, and endoscopy. There was a correlation between early images and Crohn's disease activity index (r = 0.78) and between delayed images and index (r = 0.82). Dissolution of [111In]labeled tablets was measured in vivo in a totally noninvasive manner by using a modification of the perturbed angular correlation technique known as the summation peak ratio method. Cisternographic examinations have become a relatively common procedure in the evaluation of patients with suspected communicating hydrocephalus. Adverse reactions to radiopharmaceuticals are relatively uncommon, particularly with the commonly used agents such as 111-In-DTPA and 169-Yb-DTPA.
