Fine needle aspiration biopsy for cytologic evaluation of mass lesions of the kidney, renal pelvis and adrenal is a safe economic and accurate diagnostic procedure. Tumors and inflammatory or degenerative lesions arising from these organs have characteristic cytologic features permitting their correct identification in the majority of cases.

A case of mucinous adenocarcinoma probably originating in the renal pelvis of an ectopic pyelic kidney with infiltration of the adjacent urinary bladder is reported. Review of the literature shows that this is the 42nd case of such a tumor, the second one reported in the pelvis of an ectopic pyelic kidney, and the first infiltrating the urinary bladder.

A population-based case-control study of kidney cancer was carried out in New South Wales using data from structured interviews with 489 cases of renal-cell cancer and 147 cases of renal pelvic cancer diagnosed in 1989 and 1990, together with 523 controls from the electoral rolls. This study showed that the risk of renal pelvic cancer was increased by phenacetin/aspirin compound analgesics (RR = 12.2; 95% CI 6.8-22.2) to a far greater extent than by paracetamol (RR = 1.3; 95% CI 0.7-2.4; not significant). The characteristics of spontaneous contractility in the renal pelvis were examined in the unicalyceal kidney of the rabbit. In vitro isometric studies were done on whole as well as renal pelvic segments dissected longitudinally and radially. Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are a distinctive group of B-cell lymphomas. These lymphomas arise from various anatomic sites and are mainly seen in the gastrointestinal tract, but the primary involvement of the kidney is extremely rare. In neonates, kidney and urinary tract anomalies, like rotation anomalies, may be observed at rates of 3-11%. During rise to the lumbar region, the kidney completes rotation from left to right around the long axis from top to bottom and the renal hilum turns toward the medial direction. However, generally due to vascular causes, this rotation around the long axis of the kidney (renal axis, pole to pole) may be incomplete or may not occur. In this case report, we present a 45-year old male patient with stone in a kidney with renal hilum facing fully lateral.
