Numerical assessment of induced electric fields in a worker's hand with commonly used metallic implants under exposure to low frequency magnetic fields.

The European Union's Workers' Directive 2013/35/EU on the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to electromagnetic fields specifies action levels (ALs) for external electric and magnetic fields, which should protect against induced tissue-internal electric field strengthEiabove the exposure limit values, the latter being defined in order to prevent tissue stimulation at low frequencies. However, although 2013/35/EU explicitly calls for the protection of 'workers at particular risk' (including workers with metallic implants), the AL specified in the Directive

The concentration of selected cancer markers (TPA, TPS, CYFRA 21-1, CEA) in workers occupationally exposed to arsenic (As) and some heavy metals (Pb, Cd) during a two-year observation study.

OBJECTIVE: Molecular epidemiology studies have lately been focused on occupational cancer associated with exposure to chemical carcinogens in work environment. Measuring serum levels of tumour markers ie. the substances produced in transformed cells, is a modern method used in the prevention or early detection of cancer. A two-year observation study was constructed to investigate the relationship between arsenic, lead, and cadmium concentrations and the levels of cancer markers: TPA (tissue polipeptide antigen), TPS (tissue polipeptide specific antigen), and CYFRA 21-1 in 69 male workers occup

Fatal chlorine gas exposure at a metal recycling facility: Case report.

At least four workers at a metal recycling facility were hospitalized and one died after exposure to chlorine gas when it was accidentally released from an intact, closed-valved cylinder being processed for scrap metal. This unintentional chlorine gas release marks at least the third such incident at a metal recycling facility in the United States since 2010. We describe the fatal case of the worker whose clinical course was consistent with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) following exposure to high concentrations of chlorine gas. This case report emphasizes the potential risk of chl

Heavy metal blood concentrations in smelters and chimney sweepers in Norway.

BACKGROUND: Smelter workers and chimney sweepers may be exposed to heavy metals via particulate matter through airways and skin uptake. We hypothesized that these workers have higher blood concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury compared to an office-worker group. Furthermore, we hypothesized that their concentrations increased cross-week despite the use of properly fitted respiratory protective equipment (RPE). Our aim was to uncover workers' general heavy metal concentrations and cross-week changes to provide further insight into industrial occupational exposure. MET

Occupational carcinogens in Italy: an overview on exposure to cadmium and its compounds.

Given the recognized carcinogenicity of cadmium, several regulatory interventions have been carried out over the years to protect exposed workers. The aim of the study is to investigate the prevalence and extent of exposure to cadmium among Italian workers. Data was collected from a nation-wide occupational exposure registry (SIREP, 1996-2022). Gender-specific statistical analysis was carried out for some exposure-related variables (cadmium compound, activity sector, occupational group, firm size). Potentially exposed workers were estimated for some industrial sectors. Concurrent exposures wer
