[The reactions of the arterial and venous microvessels in hypertension and alloxan diabetes in rats].

In hereditary hypertension and chronic diabetes, the number of arterial capillary ends decreased at the arterial side and increased at the venous one in rats. The density of endotheliocyte nuclei decreased in the arteries and increased in the capillaries and veins in the mesentery of the HAHIS rats. The thickening of the venous vessels' walls was more obvious in the SHR rats. The findings suggest different velocities of the proliferative processes in the two types of vessels.

Microvessel diameter changes during hemorrhagic shock in unanesthetized hamsters.

The effects of hypovolemic shock on the time-dependent diameter changes of small arteries and arterioles were studied in the hamster skin fold window preparation. This experimental model permits the visualization of the microvasculature without the effects of acute surgery, anesthesia, and exposure. In these conditions, all the arterial microvessels showed vasomotion, while the venules and small veins, that were also studied, did not show rhythmic diameter changes. Hemorrhage was induced by the withdrawal of blood through a chronically implanted arterial catheter. The mean arterial blood press

Hypovascular insulinoma with reduced microvessel density on histopathology: a case report.

UNLABELLED: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by impaired glucose homeostasis, insulin resistance, and progressive complications. Although Cardiospermum halicacabum Linn. has demonstrated antihyperglycemic activity in traditional medicine, its molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study investigated its antidiabetic mechanisms using network pharmacology, molecular docking, ADMET profiling, and in vitro α-amylase inhibition. Preliminary phytochemical screening was performed on the ethanolic extract. Phytoconstituents were retrieved from the IMPPAT dat

Biological mechanisms of microvessel formation in advanced atherosclerosis: the big five.

Advanced atherosclerotic lesions prone to rupture are characterized by a distinct histomorphology and pathobiology that became in recent years, increasingly related to the process of intraplaque neovascularization. Molecular mechanisms that regulate angiogenesis and that are active in the plaque region may destabilize advanced lesions by promoting microvessel growth and thus providing an entry route for inflammatory cells secondary to the luminal endothelium. In addition, angiogenic factors can also define intraplaque microvessel integrity and endothelial barrier function, determining the prev

[Modeling of different degrees of microvessel laser-induced endothelium damage].

A comparative analysis of rat mesentery micro vascular reactions on thermal impact during radiation to the focused laser irradiation in UV and visible regions of spectrum is made. Local intravascular temperature rise during laser irradiation both impulse (lambda = 337 nm) and continuous (lambda = 532 nm) states causes thrombus formation. The thrombus development that determined by laser irradiation parameters gives a possibility to modulate different degrees of microvessel endothelium damage.

Brain microvessel cross-presentation is a hallmark of experimental cerebral malaria.

Cerebral malaria is a devastating complication of Plasmodium falciparum infection. Its pathogenesis is complex, involving both parasite- and immune-mediated events. CD8(+) T cells play an effector role in murine experimental cerebral malaria (ECM) induced by Plasmodium berghei ANKA (PbA) infection. We have identified a highly immunogenic CD8 epitope in glideosome-associated protein 50 that is conserved across rodent malaria species. Epitope-specific CD8(+) T cells are induced during PbA infection, migrating to the brain just before neurological signs manifest. They are functional, cytotoxic an

Angiogenesis in Paget's Disease of the Vulva and the Breast: Correlation with Microvessel Density.

Our understanding of the pathogenesis of Paget's disease of the vulva and the breast remains limited. Current evidence supports the fact that angiogenesis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of several diseases. Therefore, we sought to define its role, as correlated with microvessel density, in Paget's disease of the vulva and the breast. Microvessels were analysed using anti-von Willebrand factor antibody in 105 cases of Paget's disease of the vulva and the breast comprising 71 cases of Paget's disease of the vulva, including 8 cases with invasive disease, and 34 cases of Paget's dise

Microvessel density in follicular cysts, keratocystic odontogenic tumours and ameloblastomas.

PURPOSE: Multicystic ameloblastoma is a benign epithelial odontogenic tumor that exhibits a more aggressive behavior than follicular cyst and keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT). The aim of this study was to perform an immunohistochemical evaluation of the mean microvessel density (MVD) effect on clinical behavior of odontogenic lesions and to determine whether peritumoral or intratumoral MVD has a more prominent role in clinical behavior of odontogenic lesions. METHODS: In a descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study, 45 paraffin blocks of mentioned lesions were selected and stained immuno

Mechanism of myocardial microvessel formation in cyanotic congenital heart disease.

BACKGROUND: Patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease (C-CHD) usually have myocardial thickening and fibrosis, both of which can affect the course of surgical management. Hypoxia and ischemia may stimulate microvessel formation in the myocardium, which may accelerate the myocardial thickening and fibrosis. Whether hyperplasia of microvessels occurs in the myocardium of C-CHD was investigated in this report. METHODS AND RESULTS: The patients were divided into 2 groups; the C-CHD group (n = 22), and the acyanotic congenital heart disease (A-CHD) group (n = 24). The microvessels and vascul

Microvessel density is a prognostic indicator for patients with astroglial brain tumors.

BACKGROUND: Microvessel density in tumors, a measure of angiogenesis, has been shown to be a prognostic indicator that correlates with an increased risk of metastasis in various epithelial cancers and with overall and relapse free survival in patients with breast cancer. Astrocytic brain tumors, particularly malignant astrocytomas, are recognized to be highly vascular tumors with potent angiogenic activity. However, the prognostic significance of microvessel density in these tumors is not known. METHODS: Sections from formalin fixed paraffin embedded tumor tissue from 93 unselected adult pati

Cytokine activation of human macro- and microvessel-derived endothelial cells.

The effects of the inflammatory cytokines, tumor necrosis factor (TNF alpha), interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1), and gamma interferon (IFN gamma) on macro- and microvessel-derived endothelial cell proteolytic, adhesion protein and prostaglandin synthetic activities were compared. TNF alpha treatment of human umbilical vein endothelial (HUVE) cells induced urokinase-type plasminogen (uPA) activity, increased HUVE uPA-dependent extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, and accelerated matrix remodeling and endothelial differentiation into tubes or cord-like structures. All of the aforementioned effects o

Microfibril-microvessel connections in the uvea and optic nerve of the mammalian eye.

Light- and electron-microscopic examination of arterioles, venules and capillaries of the eyes of several mammalian species has shown that the microfibrils of ocular elastic tissue attach to microvascular basement membranes throughout the uvea (iris, ciliary body, choroid) and optic nerve. Although described sporadically in prior investigations, this report shows that the connections are a common feature of the mammalian eye. The connections appear most numerous at venules and capillaries and are sparse at arterioles. The connections may provide a mechanism by which perivascular elastic tissue

Acinar-derived VEGF-A orchestrates blood vascular remodeling and preserves microvessels during acute pancreatitis.

Acute pancreatitis is a common inflammatory condition of the pancreas that can lead to severe complications such as chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. While vascular remodeling is a hallmark of many inflammatory conditions, the molecular mechanisms underlying vascular changes during pancreatitis remain largely unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the vascular changes associated with acute pancreatitis and to identify the molecular mechanisms underlying these changes. Acute pancreatitis was induced in wild-type mice through caerulein injections and resulted in pro

Tumor Microvessels with Specific Morphology as a Prognostic Factor in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Angiogenesis is essential for tumor progression. Microvessel density (MVD) is a widely used histological method to assess angiogenesis using immunostained sections, but its prognostic significance in esophageal cancer remains controversial. Recently, the evaluation of microvascular architecture has gained importance as a method to assess tumor aggressiveness. The present study aimed to identify the histological characteristics of tumor microvessels that are associated with the aggressiveness of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 108 esophageal squ

Modified histological staining for the identification of arterial and venous segments of brain microvessels.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to develop a modified histochemical staining technique to successfully identify arterial and venous segments of brain microvessels. NEW METHOD: Gelatin/red ink-alkaline phosphatase-oil red O (GIAO) staining was developed from the traditional gelatin-ink perfusion method. Oil red Chinese ink for brush writing and painting mixed with gelatin was used to label cerebral vascular lumens. Subsequently, alkaline phosphatase staining was used to label endothelial cells on the arterial segments of cerebral microvessels. Thereafter, the red ink color in vessel lumens was hi

Impact of imaging cross-section on visualization of thyroid microvessels using ultrasound: Pilot study.

Non-invasive, contrast-free microvascular imaging of human thyroids can be potentially beneficial in reducing the large number of benign biopsies of suspicious nodules. However, motion incurred by thyroid due to its proximity to the pulsating carotid artery significantly impacts the visualization of blood flow in small vessels. Singular value based spatiotemporal clutter filtering (SVD-STF) improves the performance of tissue rejection in the presence of motion. However, despite effective clutter filtering, motion in thyroid imaging can impact coherent integration of the Doppler ensemble and de

In vivo quantification of microvessels in clinically uninvolved psoriatic skin and in normal skin.

BACKGROUND: Microvascular abnormalities (capillary elongation, widening and tortuosity) are a characteristic feature of psoriasis and form one of the pathological diagnostic criteria. However, it is still not entirely clear when these microcirculatory changes appear in the skin of psoriatic subjects. Some studies suggest that capillary dilatation and elongation are present in the clinically uninvolved skin of psoriatic patients even at sites at which psoriatic plaques rarely occur. OBJECTIVES: To determine, using noninvasive techniques in vivo, the nature of any microvascular changes in the c
