The Moldovan experience of maternal death reviews.

A Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths is an anonymous, multidisciplinary and systematic review of all cases of maternal mortality. This paper describes one such process implemented at national level in Moldova. Its aim was to conduct an in-depth review of the underlying causes and circumstances surrounding each mother's death to learn lessons to improve care in future. Its findings showed that deaths were predominantly due to direct obstetric causes, especially haemorrhage and sepsis, and adverse social determinants, particularly poverty and migration also played a decisive role in more

Risk factors for mental disorders in women survivors of human trafficking: a historical cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have found high levels of symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder among women survivors of human trafficking. No previous research has described risk factors for diagnosed mental disorders in this population. METHODS: A historical cohort study of women survivors of trafficked women aged 18 and over who returned to Moldova and registered for assistance with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). Women were approached by IOM social workers and, if they gave informed consented to participate in the study, interviewed by the re

[Trends in the field of tuberculous diseases in the Eastern Europe and former U.S.S.R].

According to WHO questionnaire data, reports of national ministries of health, medical associations and other medical institutions, tuberculosis morbidity in the majority of the East European countries and CIS surpasses that for the West Europe. In 1990-1992 it varied from 18 to 80 cases per 100,000 people. The lowest morbidity was recorded in the Czech Republic, the highest in Roumania and Kazakhstan. In Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine tuberculosis morbidity tends to a slow reduction, while in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Roumania, Turkmenistan mortality rat

Quantifying excess deaths related to heatwaves under climate change scenarios: A multicountry time series modelling study.

BACKGROUND: Heatwaves are a critical public health problem. There will be an increase in the frequency and severity of heatwaves under changing climate. However, evidence about the impacts of climate change on heatwave-related mortality at a global scale is limited. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We collected historical daily time series of mean temperature and mortality for all causes or nonexternal causes, in periods ranging from January 1, 1984, to December 31, 2015, in 412 communities within 20 countries/regions. We estimated heatwave-mortality associations through a two-stage time series design.

A new method for detecting mixed Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and reconstructing constituent strains provides insights into transmission.

BACKGROUND: Mixed infection with multiple strains of the same pathogen in a single host can present clinical and analytical challenges. Whole genome sequence (WGS) data can identify signals of multiple strains in samples, though the precision of previous methods can be improved. Here, we present MixInfect2, a new tool to accurately detect mixed samples from Mycobacterium tuberculosis short-read WGS data. We then evaluate three approaches for reconstructing the underlying mixed constituent strain sequences. This allows these samples to be included in downstream analysis to gain insights into th

[Clinical variability in partial and extensive anodontia].

In a longitudinal study, 48 patients aged between 4.6 and 30.5 years with various degrees of partially extended anodontia were investigated clinically and paraclinically for 4 years. The changes in occlusal function in the context of clinical variability of partially extended anodontia will also induce, finally, a change in the fundamental craniomandibular relation.

[Population migration and tuberculosis].

Characteristic features of a migratory process of tuberculosis patients in the Republic of Moldova were subjected to study. Two tendencies have been revealed: growth of a number of the arriving subjects and deterioration of the structure of pulmonary tuberculosis among them. Patients who arrived from the places of confinement where morbidity persists on a high level constitute a particular hazard concerning tuberculosis dissemination. Certain organization measures have been taken. The epidemiologic situation for tuberculosis in the penitentiary-labour establishments at the republican Ministry

Evaluation of a family-focused intervention to promote adolescent mental health and family relationships (phase 3 of MOST): protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Parenting interventions have shown promise in improving mental well-being for parents and children and strengthening family relationships. Parenting for lifelong health (PLH) is an open-access, evidence-informed programme that aims to improve positive parenting practices, reduce family violence and promote mental health, particularly in low-resource settings. This study will evaluate the implementation and (cost-)effectiveness of an adapted version of the PLH for Parents and Teens programme. It will focus on supporting positive parenting, communication, mental health and well-bei

Cameron Lesions: Endoscopic Characteristics, Clinical Profile, and Therapeutic Implications-A Retrospective Study of 43 Patients.

Background and Objectives: Cameron lesions are linear gastric erosions or ulcers that develop at the level of the diaphragmatic constriction within a hiatal hernia. They represent an underrecognized cause of chronic iron-deficiency anemia and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. This study aimed to characterize the demographic, clinical, endoscopic, and therapeutic features of Cameron lesions diagnosed at a tertiary referral digestive endoscopy center in the Republic of Moldova. Methods: This was a retrospective single-center study from Republic of Moldova conducted over a 9-year period (2017-2026

The spread of X-linked shifting gene responsible for G-6-PD deficit in series of 13,710 subjects from 4 districts of Moldavia.

Between 1985 and 1989, a sample of 13,710 subjects (5,825 males and 7,885 females) from the Vrancea, Bacău, Neamţ and Suceava districts were examined for the presence of this pathological gene, 32 male hemizygotes and 13 female heterozygotes and homozygotes being detected. The incidence of G-6-PD deficit in the hemizygotes was of 0.55%. The investigations carried out in the shifting gene carriers' families revealed the way deficit is transmitted to offsprings. Hemizygotes get it from their mother while the female homozygotes either from their mother or father. The frequency of G-6-PD deficit o
