A Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Nanobodies (nanoMIPs)-Based Electrochemical Sensor for the Detection of Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE) contamination is commonly found on human skin and medical devices. Herein, we present a sensor utilizing molecularly imprinted polymer nanobodies (nanoMIP) for recognition and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to detect S. epidermidis. Sensor manufacturing involves synthesizing nanoMIP via solid-phase synthesis using whole bacteria as templates. Screen-printed gold electrode (AuSPE)-modified 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (MHDA) served to immobilize the nanoMIPs on the sensor surface through an amide bond, with the remaining func

Synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymer for highly selective adsorption of Sulfasalazine from contaminated wastewater.

The molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized using the bulk polymerization technique and characterized by Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller/Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BET/BJH), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and point of zero charge (pHPZC) analyses. The adsorption of sulfasalazine (SSZ) onto the MIP was systematically investigated under various conditions. The researchers investigated the effect of initial SSZ concentration, MIP mass, temperature, pH, and contact time. The highest removal efficiency was achieved at pH 7, MIP dosage

N-C QDs coated with a molecularly imprinted polymer as a fluorescent probe for detection of penicillin.

Many diseases are due to bacterial infections, which are treated by penicillin. Existing methods for penicillin detection have relatively high requirements for sample storage and processing, personnel professionalism, and instruments. Herein, water-soluble N-C quantum dots (QDs) from wheat straw were synthesized in a green way by using an efficient and simple method. The N-C QDs were modified with an imprinted layer by a gel-sol method. Penicillin selectively quenched the fluorescence emission of N-C QDs@MIP, and a linear relationship was obtained in the concentration range of 1.0 × 10-6-15.2

Oral administration of phenylalanine molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) benefits PKU mouse model.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare genetic disorder caused by a defect in the metabolism of phenylalanine (Phe). Currently, the most commonly used treatment for PKU is dietary Phe restriction. Problems associated with Phe restricted diets include lack of universal availability, high treatment costs, and reduced adherence to continued treatment with age and finally the development of psychological and neurological problems in a significant proportion of patients despite early start of treatment. One possible approach to decreasing blood Phe level, is inhibition of GI tract absorption of this amino

Molecularly imprinted polymer grafted on paper and flat sheet for selective sensing and diagnosis: a review.

Molecularly imprinted polymers are efficient and selective adsorbents which act as artificial receptors for desired compounds with the ability to recognize the size, shape, and functional groups of the compounds simultaneously. A molecularly imprinted polymer is prepared by the polymerization of functional monomers around a template (analyte) molecule. Afterward, the removal of the template from the polymer matrix leaves a selective cavity behind. The fabrication and development of molecularly imprinted polymers grew rapidly, due to their low cost, simple preparation, selectivity, sensitivity,…

Preparation of a stoichiometric molecularly imprinted polymer for auramine O and application in solid-phase extraction.

We describe a stoichiometric approach to the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers specific for auramine O. Using the stoichiometric interaction in molecular imprinting, no excess of binding sites is necessary and binding sites are only located inside the imprinted cavities. The free base of the template was obtained to facilitate the interaction with the monomers. Itaconic acid was selected as the functional monomer, and stoichiometric ratio of the interaction with the free base was investigated. The molecularly imprinted polymer preparation conditions such as cross-linker, molar ratio,…

CdTe quantum dots coated with a molecularly imprinted polymer for fluorometric determination of norfloxacin in seawater.

A fluorescent nanoprobe consisting of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and coated with molecularly imprinted layers was prepared and successfully applied to the determination of norfloxacin (NOR) in seawater and wastewater samples. The 3-mercaptopropionic acid capped QDs were prepared and then covered with a protective silica shell. A molecularly imprinted layer was finally synthesized around the silanized QDs using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as functional monomer and norfloxacin as the template. Compared with the non-imprinted polymer, the fluorescence of the nanoprobe with imprinted polymer (measur

Development and characterization of an electrochemical sensor for furosemide detection based on electropolymerized molecularly imprinted polymer.

A novel electrochemical sensor based on a molecularly imprinted polymer, poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD), has been developed for selective and sensitive detection of furosemide. The sensor was prepared by incorporating of furosemide as template molecules during the electropolymerization of o-phenylenediamine on a gold electrode. To develop the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), the template molecules were removed from the modified electrode's surface by washing it with 0.25 mol L(-1) NaOH solution. The imprinted layer was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance sp

Selective removal of diclofenac from contaminated water using molecularly imprinted polymer microspheres.

A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized by precipitation polymerization using diclofenac (DFC) as a template. Binding characteristics of the MIP were evaluated using equilibrium binding experiments. Compared to the non-imprinted polymer (NIP), the MIP showed an outstanding affinity towards DFC in an aqueous solution with a binding site capacity (Q(max)) of 324.8 mg/g and a dissociation constant (K(d)) of 3.99 mg/L. The feasibility of removing DFC from natural water by the MIP was demonstrated by using river water spiked with DFC. Effects of pH and humic acid on the selectivity an

Development of an enzyme-free glucose sensor using the gate effect of a molecularly imprinted polymer.

The instability of enzymatic glucose sensors has prevented the development of a practical artificial pancreas for diabetic patients. We therefore developed an enzyme-free glucose sensor using the gate effect of a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). This sensor has the advantages of improved stability and a simplified manufacturing procedure. An adduct of glucose and 4-vinylphenylboronic acid (VPBA) was synthesized by esterification and was then purified. The copolymer of the glucose/VPBA adduct and methylene bisacrylamide was grafted onto an indium tin oxide electrode surface. Glucose was was

Explainable AI molecularly imprinted polymer electrochemiluminescence biosensor for discriminative methamphetamine and amphetamine detection.

Independent forensic quantification of methamphetamine (MA) and amphetamine (AMP) remains challenging due to their near-identical structures and overlapping electrochemical signatures. We report an end-to-end AI-integrated MIP-ECL biosensing framework employing target-specific MIP-NP/MWCNT/Nafion/Ir(pq)2(acac)/SPCE platforms. The Ir(III) luminophore within an MWCNT/Nafion matrix produced markedly superior ECL emission over the [Ru(bpy)3]2+ benchmark (40 mM DBAE, pH 8.0). MIP nanoparticles conferred high selectivity against structurally related interferents, validated in saliva, urine, and bloo

Fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymer particles for glyphosate detection using phase transfer agents.

In this work, molecular imprinting was combined with direct fluorescence detection of the pesticide Glyphosate (GPS). Firstly, the solubility of highly polar GPS in organic solvents was improved by using lipophilic tetrabutylammonium (TBA+) and tetrahexylammonium (THA+) counterions. Secondly, to achieve fluorescence detection, a fluorescent crosslinker containing urea-binding motifs was used as a probe for GPS-TBA and GPS-THA salts in chloroform, generating stable complexes through hydrogen bond formation. The GPS/fluorescent dye complexes were imprinted into 2-3 nm fluorescent molecularly imp

Molecularly imprinted polymer based microtiter chemiluminescence array for determination of phenothiazines and benzodiazepines in pork.

In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer based chemiluminescence array capable of simultaneous determining phenothiazines and benzodiazepines was first reported. Two polymers were coated in different wells of the conventional 96-well microtiter plate as the recognition reagents, and the added analytes competed with a horseradish peroxidase-labeled bi-hapten conjugate to bind the recognition reagents. The light signal was induced by using a highly effective luminol-H2O2-IMP system. The assay procedure consisted of only one sample-loading step prior to data acquisition. Then, the array was

A multifunctional molecularly imprinted polymer-based biosensor for direct detection of doxycycline in food samples.

In this study, we developed a new type of multifunctional molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) composite as an all-in-one biosensor for the low-cost, rapid and sensitive detection of doxycycline in pig plasma. The MIP composite consisted of a magnetic core for ease of manipulation, and a shell of fluorescent MIPs for selective recognition of doxycycline. By simply incorporating a small amount of fluorescent monomer (fluorescein-O-acrylate), the fluorescent MIP layer was successfully grafted onto the magnetic core via a surface imprinting technique. The resultant MIP composites showed significan

Composite of CdTe quantum dots and molecularly imprinted polymer as a sensing material for cytochrome c.

A newly designed molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) material was fabricated and successfully utilized as recognition element to develop a quantum dots (QDs) based MIP-coated composite for selective recognition of the template cytochrome c (Cyt). The composites were synthesized by sol-gel reaction (imprinting process). The imprinting process resulted in an increased affinity of the composites toward the corresponding template. The fluorescence of MIP-coated QDs was stronger quenched by the template versus that of non-imprinted polymer (NIP)-coated QDs, which indicated the composites could reco

An optical sensor for the determination of digoxin in serum samples based on a molecularly imprinted polymer membrane.

This paper reports the synthesis and testing of a molecularly imprinted polymer membrane for digoxin analysis. Digoxin-specific bulk polymer was obtained by the UV initiated co-polymerisation of methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate in acetonitrile as porogen. After extracting the template analyte, the ground polymer particles were mixed with plasticizer polyvinyl chloride to form a MIP membrane. A reference polymer membrane was prepared from the same mixture of monomers but with no template. The resultant membrane morphologies were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The i
