A classic case of Epidermal Nevus with a particular peripilar arrangement is presented. Histopathologically, acanthosis, hyperkeratosis and papillomatosis is observed. The indemnity of the hair appendages was demonstrated in three biopsies. Some observations are made about the classification of the epidermal nevus following recent research which includes epidermolytic hyperkeratosis and linear includes epidermolytic hyperkatosis and linear inflammatory nevus. Follicular and comedo nevus, which was included in the differential diagnosis of this patient, is discussed.

Most nodal nevi are intracapsular and present the morphology of conventional nevi; less frequently, they show the appearance of common and cellular blue nevi. We report a case of an nodal capsular, trabecular and intraparenchymal melanocytic nevus with balloon-cell change in a patient with a malignant melanoma which arose in a pre-existing cutaneous giant congenital nevus, showing balloon-cell degeneration.

Two cases of a distinctive variant of Spitz (spindle and epithelioid cell) nevus are described. One lesion developed on the lower leg of a 17-year-old boy and the other lesion on the back of a 52-year-old man. The microscopic appearance was characterized by a plexiform arrangement of bundles and lobules of enlarged spindle to epithelioid melanocytes throughout the superficial and deep dermis. Nevus-associated melanoma (NAM) is histologically defined by coexisting nevus and melanoma components, yet the nevus component is frequently not visible on dermoscopy. Nevus sebaceus is a rare congenital hamartoma with clinical and histopathological features that change with puberty. It has been associated with a number of secondary neoplasms, most of which are thought to derive from follicular germ cells. In this article, the authors describe a total of 3 cases of combined melanocytic nevus and nevus sebaceus to highlight this rare finding.

BACKGROUND: Nevus of Ota and nevus of Ito are hyperpigmentary dermal melanocytoses which develop as a consequence of disturbances or failures during migration of melanocytes from the neural crest towards the epidermis; they have a relatively unknown aetiopathogenesis and may be congenital or acquired.

Nevi and melanocytic proliferations are known to appear in multiple extracutaneous sites, including lymph nodes and meninges. We report a case of an anterior mediastinal mass in a patient with a giant congenital nevus and neurofibromatosis type I. Histologically, the tumor was found to be a malignant melanoma in the thymus arising in association with a nevus that involved most of the thymic tissue. There was no sign of cutaneous melanoma on skin examination. We suggest that the tumor originated from the benign nevus in the thymus, a rare extracutaneous location for nevi and malignant melanoma.

Recent studies have identified kinase fusions in Spitzoid melanocytic neoplasms, and approximately 10% of Spitzoid neoplasms harbor anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangements and corresponding ALK immunoreactivity.
