A 16-year-old boy with multiple nevi presented with an enlarging pigmented lesion on his right chest. Previously excised nevi were all benign. Dermoscopy of the symmetrical lesion revealed a trizonal globular-homogeneous pattern. A peripheral rim of brown globules was followed by a zone with homogeneous pigmentation. The centre of the lesion showed black dots and globules. Histopathology confirmed a dysplastic compound nevus and found no diagnostic aspects of pigmented spindle cell nevus (Reed).

A 39-year-old man with poliosis of his lower eyelid lashes visited our clinic. He reported that his symptoms began with a few central lashes and then spread along the adjacent lashes during the ensuing 2 weeks. PURPOSE: To report a case of "posterior scleral melanocytosis," a pigmented lesion of the posterior sclera that clinically resembles a flat choroidal nevus.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common of all skin cancers and the most prevalent one among Caucasians. Rarely, these tumors are seen in other races. We report a 77-year-old Korean woman who presented with multiple darkly pigmented enlarging nodules on her scalp, face, trunk, and extremities. INTRODUCTION: "Café au lait" spots (CLS) are pigmented skin lesions principally located at the trunk and the limbs. Histologically, CLSs consist in an excessive pigmentation of the epidermis, with no risk of malignant transformation. The "kissing" nevus is a rare pigmented congenital nevus affecting both lower and upper eyelids in a mirror layout. As other nevi, it presents a theoretical risk of malignant transformation. These two pigmented lesions are responsible for aesthetic discomfort when affecting the face.

We report three cases of alopecia areata occurring around central, pigmented nevi. The histologic appearance of the central nevus was that of the halo nevus. Removal of the nevus did not appear to alter the natural course of the alopecia. Histochemical studies showed a substantial increase of acid mucopolysaccharides in the dermis in each case.

We studied six cases of heavily pigmented melanocytic lesions with features of blue nevi within the dermis, but with an additional junctional dendritic component. A case of malignant melanoma in the thymus is reported. Diagnostic imaging demonstrated a left anterior mediastinal mass in a patient with giant pigmented nevus without malignant change. Histologic and cytologic specimens obtained from the tumor revealed that the tumor was malignant melanoma. Surgery revealed malignant melanoma in the left lobe of the thymus. Many cell nests of pigmented nevi were observed throughout the thymus. The malignant melanoma was thought to have originated from the nevocellular nevus in the thymus. This is the first report of malignant melanoma in the thymus.

BACKGROUND: Melanocytoma (magnocellular nevus) is a jet-black benign lesion histologically composed of polygonal tumor cells with small, inconspicuous nuclei and abundant cytoplasm. Melanocytomas in general are rare. Most cases occur in the optic nerve head. Conjunctival melanocytoma (magnocellular nevus) is extremely rare, and only 3 lesions of the ocular surface have been reported.

An exceptionally rare example of nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome occurring unilaterally is presented, along with a review of the syndrome. Becker's nevus is an uncommon pigmented smooth muscle hamartoma that develops during adolescence and occurs primarily in young men. The nevus is characterized by hypertrichosis and hyperpigmentation and is usually located unilaterally over the shoulder, upper arm, and scapula. We describe a patient with a Becker's nevus who was treated with a long-pulsed ruby laser in order to decrease hair density and pigmentation.
