Calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor radiographically mimicking a sinus mucocele.

The calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor or Gorlin cyst is an uncommon lesion with a variable clinical behavior and considerable histopathologic diversity. The authors report a case of calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor that was being treated as a maxillary sinus mucocele. The possibility of mimicking numerous odontogenic and nonodontogenic lesions makes the calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor difficult for a clinical diagnosis. The present case demonstrates that a specific knowledge in oral pathology is required to differentiate odontogenic lesions.

A Custom-Made Surgical Guide for Accurate Enucleation of Nasopalatine Duct Cysts: A Technical Note and Case Report.

Nasopalatine cysts are common nonodontogenic cysts that occur in the maxilla. During the nucleation of large cysts extending to the floor of the nasal cavity, care must be taken to avoid damage to the nasal mucosa. In the present report, an innovative custom-made surgical guide made by a Three-dimensional printer is introduced for accurate enucleation surgery. The patient's cone-beam computerized tomography and dental model scan data were obtained, and a tooth-supported type of surgical guide was designed containing a circular plate structure showing the size of the cystic region, an indicator…

Median palatine cyst.

Median palatine cysts are rare, nonodontogenic lesion of the hard palate that do not involve the palatine papilla or incisive canal and that usually present as asymptomatic, fluctuant swellings. They may involve the floor the nasal cavity but are treated by simple enucleation, without recurrence. They are composed histologically of a fibrous collagenous tissue wall, with infiltration of chronic inflammatory cells, and lined by stratified squamous and/or respiratory epithelium. They are differentiated from the nasopalatine and other anterior maxillary cysts by the following diagnostic criteria:

Bilateral Nasolabial Cysts Mimicking Inferior Turbinate Hypertrophy in a Patient With Sinonasal Polyposis.

Nasolabial cysts are rare, nonodontogenic cysts of the anterior nasal floor and nasolabial fold. Bilateral presentation is uncommon and may mimic inferior turbinate hypertrophy, leading to misdiagnosis. A 41-year-old Qatari man presented with a five-year history of persistent nasal obstruction, headache, and nasal discharge. He had chronic sinonasal polyposis and a prolonged history of topical nasal decongestant use, with poor response to intranasal steroids. Two CT scans performed three years apart were initially reported as showing sinonasal polyposis; however, retrospective review revealed …
