Xanthomatous oophoritis is a rare inflammatory condition of the ovaries. We are reporting a case of a 28-year-old woman, who had undergone uterine artery embolisation 4 years ago due to symptomatic focal adenomyosis. After 3 years of embolisation, the patient started having chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhoea and polymenorrhagia along with inability to conceive. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease is a common and serious complication of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT). Its two most frequent manifestations are interstitial pneumonitis and gastroenteritis. We describe here the first reported case of CMV ovarian infection in an allo-SCT recipient. This patient was included in a clinical trial of high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) with HLA-matched peripheral SCT for metastatic breast cancer. She expired 53 days after transplantation from organ failure unrelated to her CMV oophoritis.

Therapeutic exposure to normobaric hypoxia improves both clinical and laboratory parameters in patients with chronic salpingo-oophoritis. The unidirectional trend of change is due to normalization of major systemic functions, including lymphocyte activity, owing to the recovery of lymphocyte metabolism and redistribution of T cell subpopulations towards a greater proportion of T helper cells. Adaptation to a moderate hypoxic stimulus is a promising physiologic method of improving nonspecific systemic reactivity.

A high incidence of autoimmune oophoritis can be induced in (C57BL/6Cr x A/J)F1 mice that were thymectomized at 3 days of age. The vaginal opening day was significantly delayed (thymectomized mice [n = 35], 38.1 +/- 5.8 days [mean +/- SD] versus sham thymectomized mice [n = 26], 34.0 +/- 5.2 days; p less than 0.02).
