[Gorham-stout disease].

INTRODUCTION: Gorham-Stout disease is a rare entity characterised by a massive osteolysis and typically starts monocentrically in an isolated bone. Concerning the pathogenesis, haemangiomatosis and an overstimulation of osteoclasts are discussed which cause a progressive destruction of the affected skeleton and involve neighbouring soft tissue in the further progress of the disease. CASE REPORT: This report is about a 45-year-old male who suffered a traumatic insult. X-rays showed an osteolytic lesion in the 4th lumbar vertebra with depression in the ventral roof plate. Further radiological i

Familial expansile osteolysis--not exclusively an adult disorder.

Familial expansile osteolysis (FEO, MIM174810) is a rare syndrome which was observed world-wide in only three kinships and in two unrelated American individuals. We report a patient with familial expansile osteolysis from the Czech Republic, not related to the previously reported cases. This patient's extraordinary clinical course does not conform to the ordinary. Her radiographic bone involvement was unusually extensive, involving most of the peripheral skeleton and the skull. This case documents that familial expansile osteolysis is not only a disease of adults but does occur in childhood.

A case of Gorham's disease with chylothorax treated curatively with radiation therapy.

Gorham's disease, also known as vanishing bone disease or massive osteolysis, is a rare disorder of uncertain etiology. It is characterized by uncontrolled proliferation of vascular or lymphatic capillaries within bone, leading to resorption and replacement with angiomatous tissue. It can be complicated by chylous pericardial and pleural effusions, which can be life threatening. Patients are also at risk of mortality or serious morbidity due to bone destruction, especially when the disease involves the spine. We report the case of a 31-year-old female with Gorham's disease involving several bo

Erythema elevatum diutinum with extensive acro-osteolysis.

Erythema elevatum diutinum (EED) is a rare chronic skin disease with cutaneous vasculitis, characterized by the absence of systemic vasculopathy. We describe a 79-year-old white woman who has been followed with the diagnosis of EED for 27 years. Our patient has a previously unreported combination of EED and acro-osteolysis. After reviewing possible reasons for the association, her vasculitis seems the most likely factor.

Progressive Gorham disease of the forearm.

Gorham's-Stout disease is a rare but potentially debilitating disease consisting of massive bone osteolysis and bone resorption associated with vascular proliferation and increased osteoclastic activity. Although it can present in a wide variety of forms, it typically involves bones formed by intramembranous ossification such as the skull, pelvis, and scapula. It can occur spontaneously or after trauma. Most cases are monofocal and resolved spontaneously, although there are reports of multifocal and rapidly progressing disease. It typically presents as disuse muscle atrophy or pathologic fract

Kidney abnormalities in Hajdu-Cheney syndrome.

We report a 14-year-old boy from Saudi Arabia with the Hajdu-Cheney syndrome who also had bilateral hypoplastic kidneys and chronic renal failure. This report, along with others in the literature, suggest that renal abnormalities, including cystic disease, vesico-ureteral reflux, glomerulonephritis, chronic renal failure, and hypertension, may be an integral part of this syndrome. Recognizing this fact, may help in the early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of renal failure in these patients.

Gorham-Stout disease: a textbook presentation of a rare disease in Pakistan.

Gorham-Stout disease is an exceptionally rare disease which is characterised by massive osteolysis of the bone, oedema, and in severe cases pleural effusion and chylothorax. Its aetiopathology is unknown, and no specific treatment has been modulated thus far. We report the case of a 17-year-old male with osteolysis in the bones of his entire left arm and persistent chylothorax. Due to the late presentation and patient's desire for a better quality of life, amputation was the only choice left for treatment. This case was evaluated and treated at the Orthopaedic Surgery and Trauma department of

Reduced expression of semaphorin 3A in osteoclasts causes lymphatic expansion in a Gorham-Stout disease (GSD) mouse model.

Gorham-Stout disease (GSD) is a sporadic chronic disease characterized by progressive bone dissolution, absorption, and disappearance along with lymphatic vessel infiltration in bone-marrow cavities. Although the osteolytic mechanism of GSD has been widely studied, the cause of lymphatic hyperplasia in GSD is rarely investigated. In this study, by comparing the RNA expression profile of osteoclasts (OCs) with that of OC precursors (OCPs) by RNA sequencing, we identified a new factor, semaphorin 3A (Sema3A), which is an osteoprotective factor involved in the lymphatic expansion of GSD. Compared

Cerebrospinal fluid leakage and Chiari I malformation with Gorham's disease of the skull base: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Gorham's syndrome is a rare bone disorder characterized by massive osteolysis of unknown etiology. There are no reports of comorbidity involving cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage and Chiari I malformation with Gorham's syndrome. Here, we report an unusual case of an acute presyrinx state complicated by bacterial meningitis due to CSF leakage and Chiari I malformation associated with Gorham's disease of the skull base. CASE PRESENTATION: A 25-year-old woman with Chiari I malformation associated with Gorham's syndrome presented with aggressive paresthesia following bacterial meningi
