Receptor-interacting protein 3 (RIP3) has been reported as an important necroptosis pathway mediator that can be blocked by necrostatin-1 (Nec-1). Ouabain-induced tachyarrhythmias in cats can be abolished by bolus injection of NaHCO3 solution. This effect is consistent, rapid and of short duration. The antiarrhythmic effect appears to be due to high sodium concentration of this solution, as hypertonic NaCl solution with equal concentration of sodium exerts the same effect. Plasma from 37 essential hypertensive patients, from 11 subjects with primary aldosteronism and from 23 normotensive subjects was tested for ouabain-like activity. The effect of dietary thiamin deficiency on high affinity [3H]ouabain binding was examined in different regions of rat brain. The binding activity in the cerebellum and hypothalamus was significantly lower in the thiamin-deficient group than in the pair-fed control and freely fed control groups. The decrease was due to a change in Bmax but not in Kd. The results suggest a possible involvement of (Na+,K+)-ATPase in neurological manifestations of thiamin deficiency.
