Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare, benign and chronic fibrosing inflammatory disease that affects the adipose tissue of the mesentery of the small intestine and colon. The specific etiology of the disease is unknown. The diagnosis is suggested by computed tomography and is usually confirmed by surgical biopsies. Treatment is empirical and based on a few selected drugs. Surgical resection is sometimes attempted for definitive therapy, although the surgical approach is often limited. We report two cases of mesenteric panniculitis with two different presentations and subsequently varying treatmen

For the first time we describe a sclerosing mesenteritis that appeared acutely after abdominal operations. The patient suffered from diffuse abdominal symptoms. There was a hard tumour in the left middle and lower abdomen. Histological analysis revealed fibrosis and bone tissue. Symptoms improved after application of prednisone and high-calorie infusions.

Sclerosing mesenteritis is part of a spectrum of benign, inflammatory diseases of the abdominal mesentery. It has been called retractile mesenteritis, and other forms include mesenteric panniculitis and mesenteric lipodystrophy. The disease rarely involves the retroperitoneum. We present a case of sclerosing mesenteritis that progressed to ureteral involvement.

We reviewed the clinical history, and the physical, laboratory and ultrasonography examinations of a young female suffering from mesenteric panniculitis. In our case, as well as those described by other authors, definitive diagnosis was histological and our patient has had a benign course of the disease.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare inflammatory process of the mesenteric fat with unknown etiology. We report two pathologically proven cases of mesenteric panniculitis. Both patients presented with abdominal pain and palpable masses. In one patient, computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a well-defined heterogenous mass containing fat density at the mesocolon. In the other patient, CT showed a fatty mass encompassing mesenteric vessels at the root of the mesentery. Although the definite diagnosis of mesenteric panniculitis depends on histopathology, recognition of CT features is helpful in the

The Canadian Association of Radiologists Incidental Findings Working Group (CAR IFWG) has developed new recommendations for the management of incidental findings of the spleen, lymph nodes, peritoneum, and mesentery, tailored to the Canadian healthcare context. This guidance addresses splenomegaly, focal splenic lesions, splenic artery aneurysms, lymphadenopathy, mesenteric panniculitis, and peritoneal nodules. Building on prior American College of Radiology (ACR) guidance and integrating recent evidence, the CAR IFWG offers a pragmatic approach emphasizing radiologic features, clinical contex

This report describes a rare clinical case of a 4.5-month-old, female domestic shorthair, cat with isolated abdominal fat tissue inflammation and necrosis, resembling human omental panniculitis. Its possible relationship with pancreatitis or bile induced chemical peritonitis is also discussed. The overall clinical course was considered benign. Initial clinical signs were vomiting and anorexia, presumably due to inflammation, followed by mass development. It was speculated that, eventually, the kitten was vomiting because of mechanical pressure from the mass, and that this pressure subsided as

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare disease caused by idiopathic inflammation of adipose tissue, most commonly affecting the mesentery of the small bowel. We present a unique case of mesenteric panniculitis in a patient with Tangier disease; a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the ABCA1 gene, leading to deficiency of high-density lipoprotein in the blood and accumulation of cholesterol esters within various tissues. The accumulation of cholesterol esters in body tissues in patients with Tangier disease may contribute to the pathogenesis of mesenteric panniculitis; although there is li

The mesenteric panniculitis is a rare form of inflammation that mainly involves the mesenteric adipose tissue. The etiology remains unknown and the disease has been associated with various conditions such as cancer, abdominal trauma, previous surgery, autoimmune diseases and obesity. Mesenteric panniculitis can be divided into two main groups: the mesenteric panniculitis with only the inflammation and degeneration of the mesenteric fat, and the retractile panniculitis, mainly fibrotic, with retraction of the surrounding structures. From a radiological point of view, there are two main signs: t

Mesenteric panniculitis is an uncommon pathology, of poorly understood etiology, characterized by progressive inflammation and fibrosis of the small bowel mesentery. This disease has been reported usually after other abdominal surgeries. We present two cases of young male patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and developed abdominal symptoms within 45-60 days of surgery. Both were investigated for known post-bariatric complications. While first patient presented (5 months later) at an irreversible stage and died within 8-9 months of primary surgery, in second patient, the dise
