[Inverted papilloma of the prostatic urethra. Histopathogenetic considerations].

We present a rare case of inverted papilloma of the prostatic ureter whose presenting features were gross hematuria and variable dysuria. Endoscopy revealed a polypoid appearance with a fine pedicle arising from the prostatic urethra. Treatment was by transurethral resection of the neoformation. The diagnosis was made on the histopathological findings. The different histopathogenic considerations published in the literature are discussed.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH SINONASAL INVERTED PAPILLOMA.

The frequency of occurrence of inverted papilloma (IP) ranges from 0.4% to 7% of all neoplasms of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Inverted papilloma is a benign epithelial tumor that refers to Schneider's sinonasal papilloma. IP is usually diagnosed in the late stages in average, 1-4 years after the first appearance of sinonasal symptoms. The purpose of this study - to summarize the results of diagnosis and treatment of patients with sinonasal inverted papilloma, who underwent surgical treatment in our department. We evaluated 37 patients with histologically verified sinonasal IP from

Inverted papilloma of the hard palate masquerading as a carcinoma.

Inverted papilloma (IP) is a rare, benign tumor of the nose and paranasal sinus. However, it is locally aggressive, the recurrence rate is high and malignant transformation is possible. Until now, IP of the hard palate has rarely been reported in the literature. Here, we reported a case with IP of the hard palate, which clinically presented as a carcinomatous growth. The management of IP is complete surgical excision with a close follow-up to detect early recurrence and/or malignant transformation.

[Inverted sinonasal papillomas. Review of 61 cases].

INTRODUCTION: Inverted papillomas are benign sinonasal lesions that arise primarily from the lateral nasal wall which are characterized by their tendency to recur and propensity to be associated with malignancy. The aim of this work is to analyze our experience in the treatment of these lesions, especially through the endoscopic approach. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We present 61 cases of sinonasal inverted papillomas that were treated at our hospital since 1983. The patients were studied by age, gender, site of presentation of the tumor, symptoms, radiologic studies, surgical treatment and evolutio

A study on the clinical profile and management of inverted Papilloma.

Inverted Papilloma is a unique neoplasm characterized by its tendency to destroy bone, tendency to recur after incomplete removal and association with malignancy. The uncertainty of its clinical features and projected behaviour has resulted in an ill-defined approach to its management. This is a prospective study of 30 patients of Inverted Papilloma admitted at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal between August 2001 to July 2003. In this study, meticulous attention is given to the clinical presentation and management in a series of 30 patients with inverted papilloma. A majority of

[Secondary obstructive uropathy to inverted papilloma of the ureter].

We report a new case of inverted papilloma of the ureter, with an uncommon clinic manifestation as a obstructive uropathy. In spite of the bening nature the inverted papilloma of the urinary tract, it can be multifocal and relapsing and it may be associated with low rate urothelial carcinomas. A precise pre-operative diagnosis is necessary for a conservative or endourologic treatment. The followup of these cases with periodic urography and cystoscopy is mandatory.

[Sino-nasal inverted papillomas and occupational etiology].

The sino-nasal inverted papilloma is a rare benign tumour with certain aggressive features because of frequent relapses and the high probability of malignant degeneration. For these reasons, several studies have been made to evaluate the efficacy of the different courses of treatment, but only afew studies have been carried out to establish the etiology of this tumour, which is still uncertain. Although it is believed that viral infection, chronic inflammation and cigarette smoking can play an important etiological role, it has recently been suggested that occupational risk factors, such as th

Inverting papilloma of the head and neck: the UCLA update.

Inverting papilloma of the nose and paranasal sinuses is a benign disease with malignant potential. This disease is characterized by multiple recurrences, especially after minimal operative therapy. Controversy exists over the most appropriate treatment for this rare tumor. This review presents an update of the UCLA experience with inverting papilloma over the past four decades along with a review of the literature. A retrospective study of 61 patients seen at the UCLA Medical Center was conducted. The mean age at presentation was 63 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 2:1. The most common s

Contribution of a new case of urothelial inverted papilloma of rare location. Its invariably benign character and resolution with conservative surgery, forces to bear in mind this possibility when encountering pelvic repletion defects which can be mistaken, even after exfoliative cytologies, for low-degree transitional carcinomas, there being necessary to exhaust all procedures within our grasp in order to establish a diagnosis prior to definite surgery.

Inverted papillomas and associated squamous cell carcinomas.

Inverted papillomas of the nose and paranasal sinuses are found to be associated with squamous cell carcinomas in a small percentage of cases. The records of forty-six patients treated for inverted papillomas in these areas over a 10-year period were reviewed. Eleven patients (24%) were found to have squamous cell carcinoma, and one carcinoma in situ, in relationship to the inverted papillomas. This is a much higher percentage than generally reported. Four of these patients were found to have inverted papillomas coincidentally in surgical specimens resected for squamous cell carcinoma. Patient

Management of inverted papilloma of the nose and paranasal sinuses.

Inverted papilloma of the nose and paranasal sinuses is a neoplastic growth of epithelium which inverts into the underlying stroma rather than proliferating outward from the surface. These neoplasms probably arise from the area of the lateral nasal wall. Inverted papilloma is characterized by its: A. capacity to destroy; B. tendency to recur; and C. association with malignancy. During the past decade, we have come to understand better the histologic, biologic, and anatomic features of this tumor. More studies focusing on inverted papilloma have been published in recent years, and the authors o

Imaging of sinonasal inverted papillomas: A literature review.

The sinonasal inverted papilloma is a rare benign tumor which is distinguished from the other sinonasal tumors by some characteristics such as a slow developement, local aggressiveness, a high rate of recurrence after surgical resection and the possibility of malignant transformation. It should be considered in the presence of any unilateral polypoid symptomatology or lesion. Its treatment is surgical. In this update, we discuss the radiological specificities of sinonasal inverted papillomas as well as the contribution of imaging in the diagnosis and post-treatment monitoring of these tumors.

A rare presentation of a paediatric sinonasal inverted papilloma.

Sinonasal inverted papilloma (IP) is a benign tumour with an extremely low incidence in children. We report the case of an 11-year-old Caucasian male presenting with recurrent right-sided epistaxis, nasal obstruction and a mass in the right nasal cavity. An initial diagnosis of a nasopharyngeal angiofibroma was considered; however, on detailed histological examination, the mass was found to be an inverted papilloma. This report aims to increase awareness of IP in the paediatric age group, as well as reinforcing the role of endoscopic surgery in the management of this condition.

[Inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity - a case report].

Inverted papilloma is a rare, benign sinonasal tumor. Its etiology is the most likely related to HPV infection. Inverted papilloma originates from the ciliated respiratory epithelium, typically from the lateral nasal wall. The tumor is characterized by endophytic growth inwards the stroma with adjacent tissues destruction. The clinical symptoms are non-specific, such as: unilateral obstruction of the nasal duct, rhinorrhoea, epistaxis and anosmia. The treatment consists in a complete surgical excision of the tumor. Inverted papilloma has a tendency to recurrence with incomplete resection and a

Inverted papilloma of the nasolacrimal system invading the orbit.

A 73-year-old man with a history of epiphora, discharge from the left eye, and left-sided nasal congestion underwent external dacryocystorhinostomy for nasolacrimal duct obstruction. The procedure revealed bony erosion of the majority of the lacrimal sac fossa and a large papillomatous mass filling the lacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct. Inverted papilloma was diagnosed via biopsy. A subsequent orbitotomy with combined endoscopic medial maxillectomy was performed to remove the mass. This case illustrates the importance of including inverted papilloma, a benign but invasive neoplasm, in the dif

Inverted urothelial papillomas with foamy or vacuolated cytoplasm.

Inverted papillomas of the bladder are uncommon benign neoplasms characterized by endophytic growth of urothelial cells as anastomosing cords, displaying minimal cytologic atypia. Reports of inverted papilloma associated with urothelial carcinoma or urothelial carcinoma arising within inverted papilloma highlight the difficulties in evaluating urothelial lesions with inverted growth patterns. Within the spectrum of findings in inverted papilloma, vacuolization and foamy (xanthomatous-appearing) cytoplasmic changes have not been previously reported. In the current study, we present 5 novel case
