An adult male cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis) developed erythematous plaques with adherent white scales on the skin. The development of parakeratotic lesions and ulcers of the oesophagogastric epithelium was studied in pigs from a variety of sources and of ages ranging from 10 to 22 weeks. Adema disease and acrodermatitis enteropathica, two parallel syndromes in calves of Friesian descent and in man, are described. Both are congenital zinc deficiency disorders with a lethal course if left untreated. Complete recovery follows oral zinc therapy. Symptoms and findings are set out in Table I. Diseased calves may serve as animal models for further studies on acrodermatitis enteropathica and the biological role of zinc.

We describe a 25-year-old woman with multiple papules in the perianal and perineal area, clinically resembling condylomata acuminata. The histology revealed an acantholytic epidermis and focal parakeratosis. Oral condyloma acuminatum or venereal wart is an infectious disease of the oral mucosa caused by a virus similar or identical to that causing Verrucae vulgaris and plantaris.
