Advancing dentistry: fractal assessment of bone health in pediatric patients with celiac disease using dental images.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects of a gluten-free diet on bone structure in children with celiac disease using fractal analysis on panoramic radiographs. METHOD AND MATERIALS: A total of 49 patients with celiac disease aged 6 to 13 years, separated into two groups as previously and newly diagnosed, and a control group of 32 healthy individuals were evaluated. In previously and newly diagnosed patients with celiac disease, body mass index Z-scores were calculated, calcium, alkaline phosphatase, vitamin D3, and parathormone levels were measured, and bone mineral density Z-scores were obtained

Oral health management in pediatric patients with "special needs". Integrated hospital care model involving dentistry and pediatrics for the management of pediatric patients with hemato-oncologic diseases.

Dental care for pediatric patients with special needs represents a significant clinical and organizational challenge that requires an integrated, multidisciplinary, and personalized approach. This paper presents a structured model of collaboration between Dentistry and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology developed at the San Gerardo dei Tintori Hospital in Monza since 1999, aimed at providing comprehensive management for children affected by hematologic-oncologic diseases. The integration of these two disciplines led to the creation of a diagnostic-therapeutic-assistance pathway (hereinafter referre

Implementation of Virtual Reality in Preclinical Pediatric Dentistry Learning: A Comparison Between Simodont® and Conventional Methods.

Background/Objectives: Preclinical training in pediatric dentistry is traditionally performed on acrylic primary teeth or natural extracted teeth in phantoms or dental manikins. With technological advancements, virtual simulation has become increasingly common, enhancing the development of cognitive and motor skills in dental students while complementing traditional methods. Specific objectives included assessing whether preclinical theoretical knowledge impacts motor skill scores, comparing the quality of dental preparations on acrylic teeth versus those performed using virtual simulation (Si…

From Preservation to Precision in Pediatric Dentistry: Evidence-Calibrated Viewpoint and Heuristic Framework for Silver Diamine Fluoride Guidance.

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a key preservation-based intervention in pediatric dentistry. It can arrest many cavitated lesions, reduce treatment burden, and expand access for children who cannot receive conventional restorative care. This viewpoint article offers a reasoned, heuristic framework for calibrating SDF guidance to the strength of the underlying evidence. It does not present a systematic review or formal policy standards. Foundational trials support the clinical usefulness of 38% SDF. The 2017 AAPD guidelines provided conditional recommendations based on low-quality evidence. T…
