Schwannoma, also known as neurilemoma, is the most common tumour of peripheral nerves. Although it is the most common tumour of peripheral nerves, it is seldom seen in adult population. We present a very rare case of schwannoma in an unusual localization. The presented case concerns a 58-year-old patient with a slowly growing popliteal mass and neuralgia for 6 months. A mass originating from a nerve or compressing a nerve was thought in the differential diagnosis. Ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a heterogenous, well-defined solid mass that seems to originate from tibia

Popliteal artery compression may be caused by a Baker's cyst as documented by this case report. Typically this occurs in a relatively young patient without other evidence of atherosclerosis. The ischemic symptoms may be intermittent. Treatment should include resection of the offending cyst and any damaged popliteal artery.

A rare case of popliteal cyst due to echinococcus is reported. The implications of the hydatid localisation in this site in regard to differential diagnosis are discussed.

A patient with psoriatic arthritis presented to the Geisinger Medical Center emergency department after the sudden onset of pain and swelling in his left calf. Initially, the patient was thought to have acute thrombophelebitis. Upon further examination, the diagnosis of a ruptured popliteal cyst was considered, and was confirmed with arthrography. The case illustrates an occurrence of a dissecting popliteal cyst simulating an cute deep vein thrombosis in a patient with an inflammatory process involving the knee.

A rare case is described of giant swelling of the soft tissue around the knee joint. A large popliteal cyst was present, the fleshy walls of which penetrated the muscle layers of the calf. The place of arthrography in diagnosis is stressed. The yellow-brown mass was confirmed histologically to be pigmented villonodular synovitis. The mechanism of formation of a popliteal cyst is discussed. The differential diagnosis and treatment are reviewed briefly: our preference is for radical surgery.

Baker's cysts are usually an indolent pathology that is managed nonoperatively, with intervention reserved for rare patients with compressive symptoms. We present a patient with a Baker's cyst that led to disabling claudication requiring vascular surgical intervention. Initially, an endovascular approach was undertaken; however, the patient experienced early stent failure from the Baker's cyst's mechanical compressive effects necessitating open revascularization. This case highlights Baker's cysts as a rare source of claudication and emphasizes favorability of prompt open revascularization rat

There are many causes for the paralysis of the external sciatic popliteal nerve , such as the intraneural ganglion cyst. In this case, we evaluate a 52-year-old woman with no relevant personal record, who was admitted with paresis of the right foot of 4 months of evolution associated with alterations in the sensitivity that rose up to the posterolateral region of the leg. The diagnosis was based on MR and cyst decompression and disconnection of the articular branch. Given the low incidence of these lesions, their origin is still subject to controversy. The most widely accepted theory is the un

Popliteal cyst rupture is a known phenomenon following strenuous labor or sport activity. We present a case in which popliteal cyst rupture followed an unusual strenuous physical activity--devoted prayer during the holy month of the Ramadan.

Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in North America. Our review of the literature found few reports of Lyme disease presented in the orthopaedic literature. However, Lyme disease presenting as a popliteal cyst, with or without rupture, is rarely reported. We present 4 cases of Lyme disease that initially presented to our pediatric orthopaedic clinic for treatment of a popliteal cyst. The early diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease may help prevent the often-devastating long-term sequelae of Lyme disease. The goal of this article is to increase the awareness of Lyme disease pr…

The gonococcal arthritis-dermatitis syndrome includes tenosynovitis, arthralgias, arthritis, skin lesions, and constitutional symptoms. A patient with popliteal cyst involvement and gonococcal arthritis-dermatitis syndrome is the subject of this report. The detection of areas of involvement by the use of gallium-67 citrate, 99m-technetium phosphate, and indium-111-labeled granulocytes is also detailed.

A 60-year-old male patient presented to the vascular clinic with a three-month history of a large popliteal fossa swelling post Baker's Cyst Aspiration. This swelling had been getting progressively larger over this period. CT angiogram of his lower limb reported a right popliteal aneurysm of 8.5 cm diameter with a large amount of intramural thrombus that was later confirmed as a pseudoaneurysm in our vascular multi-discliplinary meeting. It was decided to dissect the popliteal artery from a posterior approach and perform a bypass using a vein. Intraoperatively, a biological bovine pericardial
