Precipitin lines were observed in double diffusion tests between mouse gut tissue homogenates and serum from the same animal. Other tissues failed to produce this result. This study was based on a sample of 3,065 farmers from a larger survey population of 12,056 Finnish farmers. Guinea pigs (Hartley strain) and rats (Wistar strain) were each fed 200 and 100 Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae, respectively. Five animals from each species were sacrificed weekly between 1-8 weeks postinfection (WPI) and then at 12, 16, 20 and 30 WPI for collection of worms, bile and sera. Eggs of Schistosoma mansoni and livers with numerous granulomata were preserved at -70 C in 1.7% salt solution plus an equal volume of water-soluble jelly. The eggs were suitable for circumoval tests after at least 1 yr of preservation and the livers supplied adequate eggs for the tests for at least 6 mo after preservation. This procedure may be useful where such storage facilities are available, and the COP test is used for diagnosis.

Using the indirect fluorescent antibody test and sera from 10 proved cases of invasive amoebiasis, the effects of absorption of IgG on observed titres of amoeba-specific IgM and IgA were investigated. In addition, results of cellulose acetate precipitin tests were compared with anti-amoebic antibody levels. Antiamoebic IgM was found at titres of 1:14 to 1:112 after IgG absorption in four cases. Anti-amoebic IgA was detected in sera from four cases, but the maximum titre was 1:28.
