Tripeptide Leu-Pro-Phe from Corn Protein Hydrolysates Attenuates Hyperglycemia-Induced Neural Tube Defect in Chicken Embryos.

Neural tube defect (NTD) is the most common and severe embryopathy causing embryonic malformation and even death associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Leu-Pro-Phe (LPF) is an antioxidative tripeptide isolated from hydrolysates of corn protein. However, the biological activity of LPF in vivo and in vitro remains unclear. This study is aimed at investigating the protective effects of tripeptide LPF against NTD in the high glucose exposure condition and delineate the underlying biological mechanism. We found that LPF alleviated NTD in the high glucose-exposed chicken embryo model.

Hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of porcine plasma protein hydrolysates on carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage in rats.

Porcine plasma protein hydrolysate (PPH) prepared by alcalase for 5 h was fractioned by ultrafiltration. Four fractions, H(1) (MW>10k), H(2) (MW 6-10k), H(3) (MW 3-6k) and H(4) (MW<3k), were obtained. H(4) possessed the highest antioxidant activity as indicated by thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance values and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (P<0.01). Male rats were pretreated with H(4) at dose of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg of body weight orally once daily for 12 days, then they were treated intraperitoneally with a single dose of CCl(4) (2 mL/kg of body weight). The results showed that or

Mechanical Properties, Microstructure, and In Vitro Digestion of Transglutaminase-Crosslinked Whey Protein and Potato Protein Hydrolysate Composite Gels.

The production of animal protein usually leads to higher carbon emissions than that of plant protein. To reduce carbon emissions, the partial replacement of animal protein with plant protein has attracted extensive attention; however, little is known about using plant protein hydrolysates as a substitute. The potential application of 2 h-alcalase hydrolyzed potato protein hydrolysate (PPH) to displace whey protein isolate (WPI) during gel formation was demonstrated in this study. The effect of the ratios (8/5, 9/4, 10/3, 11/2, 12/1, and 13/0) of WPI to PPH on the mechanical properties, microst…

Nutritional supplements with intravenously administered lipid, protein hydrolysate, and glucose in small premature infants.

Nutritional support with intravenously administered fat, protein hydrolysate, and glucose was given to 23 premature infants weighing less than 1,500 gm at birth. Growth in the 19 survivors approximated intrauterine growth rates in all dimensions. Complications included sodium imbalance and transient intolerance of the smallest and sickest infants to all components: carbohydrate, protein, fat, and even water. Autopsies in four patients who died did not reveal any untoward findings clearly related to the use of intravenously given lipids. Intravenously given fat has a potentially useful role in

Neuroavailable peptides from hempseed protein hydrolysates reduce hippocampal inflammation and glial activation in a scopolamine-induced Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairment, synaptic dysfunction, and neuronal loss. Neuroinflammation, driven by the activation of microglia and astrocytes, is a key contributor to AD pathology, amplifying oxidative stress and amyloid-β toxicity. Modulation of neuroinflammatory pathways thus represents a promising therapeutic strategy. In this study, we evaluated the effects of a food-grade hempseed protein hydrolysate (HPH20A) on hippocampal inflammation and glial activation in a scopolamine-induced mouse model of AD. Mice were
