Psychometric evaluation of the Readiness for Discharge Questionnaire.

OBJECTIVE: The Readiness for Discharge Questionnaire (RDQ) was developed as an easy to use tool for assessing readiness for discharge, independent of socio-economic factors, for inpatients with schizophrenia. The psychometric properties of the RDQ are described. METHODS: The RDQ consists of 6 items assessing suicidality/homicidality, control of aggression/impulsivity, activities of daily living, medication-taking, delusions/hallucinations interfering with functioning and global status. A final yes/no question assesses readiness for discharge. Data derived from 3 studies (500 patients in 3 cou

A psychometric study of patients with nail dystrophies.

BACKGROUND: Survey studies suggest that patients with various dermatologic conditions experience concomitant psychologic distress. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine which types of psychologic distress may be correlated with dystrophic disease of the nail in nonpsychiatric patients. METHODS: Fifty-seven adult subjects presenting for treatment of nail dystrophies completed a survey instrument, which included 5 psychometric measures. RESULTS: On average, patients rated the severity of their nail dystrophy and functional deficit higher (7.40/10 and 6.00, respectively) than i

A psychometric-genetic study of schizotypal disorder.

This study aimed to clarify the structure and the etiological constituents of schizotypal disorder (SPD) by directly interviewing pairs of twins. A latent class analysis was applied to each individual's outcome for specified SPD items, such that each subject's phenotype could be redefined in terms of individual probabilities of class membership. Intraclass correlations were then calculated for each twin pair, and a standard univariate twin model applied. The best latent class analysis solution encompassed a model with four latent classes (three latent classes of SPD subjects, one of non-SPD).

Psychometric properties of the Dissociative Experiences Scale.

The test-retest reliability of the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES; Bernstein EM, Putnam FW [1986] Development, reliability, and validity of a dissociation scale. The Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease 174:727-735) in a clinical sample was found to be .93 for the total DES score and .95, .89, and .82 for the three subscale scores of amnesia, depersonalization-derealization, and absorption (dissociative identity disorder [DID], DSM-IV), respectively. Test-retest reliabilities within diagnostic groups of multiple personality disorder, dissociative disorder not otherwise specified, and a g

[Clinical and psychometric findings in spasmodic torticollis].

In a previous study screening for psychopathological symptoms in a sample of 256 patients with spasmodic torticollis had resulted in 27% of patients, whose mean score of the GSI of the SCL-90-R was above the double standard deviation of the control group of normals (Scheidt et al. 1994). In this study the self-reported psychopathology of a subsample of 19 TS patients was controlled for its agreement with a clinical assessment in a psychiatric interview. The results of the study confirm the validity of the SCL-90-R as a screening instrument for psychological distress and psychopathology. Howeve

[A psychometric study of a group of Parkinsonian patients].

A group of 45 parkinsoniens patients were studied by means of Wechsler's adult intelligence scale (WAIS). The mean verbal intelligence quotient (VIQ) was not significantly different from that of the theoretical mean of the general population, whereas the performance intelligence quotient (PIQ) was significantly lower. Superior verbal over performance scale ratings were found significantly more frequently in the parkinsonian group than in the general population. Dispersion analysis tended to show that some parkinsonian patients have a fairly marked reduction in intelligence efficiency which is

Screening Tool for Mental Health Problems During COVID-19 Pandemic: Psychometrics and Associations With Sex, Grieving, Contagion, and Seeking Psychological Care.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has created a public mental health crisis. Brief, valid electronic tools are required to evaluate mental health status, identify specific risk factors, and offer treatment when needed. OBJECTIVE: To determine the construct validity, reliability, and measurement invariance of a brief screening tool for mental health symptoms by sex, loss of loved ones, personal COVID-19 status, and psychological care-seeking during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the aim involved establishing a predictive pattern between the mental health variables. METHOD: A total sample

Psychometrics of the SCL-90-R and Development and Testing of Brief Versions SCL-45 and SCL-9 in Infertile Couples.

BACKGROUND: Although infertile couples are mentally healthy, dealing with infertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment is usually associated with psychological distress. It would therefore be useful to have short, multidimensional instruments to be able to identify people who present more intense emotional reactions and follow up their emotional distress throughout the ART. OBJECTIVES: The goals of the study were to analyze the psychometric adequacy of the original 90-item version of the Symptom Checklist (SCL-90) in a sample of Spanish women and their partners undergoing

Psychometric evaluation of the professional forensic stigma scale.

BACKGROUND: Professional stigma toward forensic mental healthcare service users may compromise care quality and negatively affect treatment and rehabilitation outcomes. Reliable role- and context-specific instruments are needed to assess professional stigma in settings where therapeutic and security responsibilities intersect. This study examined the psychometric properties of the newly developed PROfessional Forensic Stigma (PROFS) scale, a multidimensional measure assessing stereotypes, prejudices, and discriminatory behaviors among professionals working with forensic populations. METHODS:

Comparison of methods for quick estimation of psychometric thresholds.

Threshold estimation plays a crucial role in modern cognitive science. Numerous psychophysical methods exist to quickly estimate key psychometric function parameters, like thresholds. Using Monte Carlo simulations of 60 to 120 trials, we compare stimulus selection methods in their ability to estimate thresholds. We evaluate model performance using measures including parameter bias, interquartile range, half-width of the limits of agreement and probability of missing the detection of participants responding randomly (miss rate). Psychometric functions are classically assumed to be monotonic, bu

Psychometric validation of the infant feeding position scale.

BACKGROUND: Infant feeding is a fundamental daily task and a critical parent-child interaction. Caregivers perform 6-12 feeds daily, often maintaining fixed, uncoordinated postures that can cause musculoskeletal strain, soreness, and injury. PROBLEM: Although various feeding positions are widely practiced, currently no standardized tool evaluates the quality or suitability of a parent's physical posture. Without a validated self-assessment instrument, it is difficult for parents to identify suboptimal positioning, and healthcare providers lack a baseline for evidence-based postural guidance.

Psychometric Evaluation of the Family Willingness for Caregiving Scale.

BACKGROUND: Family members and close friends of patients undergoing mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit (ICU) often experience stress and a sense of helplessness. Participating in the care of their loved one may improve their adaptation to the ICU environment and better prepare them for caregiving after discharge. OBJECTIVES: The primary aim of this study was to develop the Family Willingness for Caregiving Scale (FWCS) and test its psychometric properties. The secondary aim was to examine relationships between family members' demographic characteristics and caregiving willingne

Psychometric Evaluation of the Insomnia Severity Index in Nurses.

OBJECTIVES: Examine psychometric properties of the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) in a sample of nurses. METHOD: In a sample of day shift nurses (N = 289), a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), convergent and discriminant validity analyses, and a test-retest reliability analysis were performed. RESULTS: CFA showed that a two-factor model provided the best fit. The ISI had moderate to poor convergent validity with sleep diary parameters, and moderate convergent validity with the Sleep Condition Indicator (r = -.66), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (r = .66), and PROMIS Sleep-Related Impairment

Attitudes toward Homelessness Inventory: A psychometric analysis.

The Attitudes toward Homelessness Inventory (ATHI) was developed due to a lack of psychometrically sound instruments to measure the nature a … ts were not sufficient for ensuring adequate measurement of attitudes toward homelessness. The poor psychometrics found in this study were likely the result of now outdated items. While the ATHI was developed using well-regarded and rigorous methods, results from this study suggest that it may be necessary to either make edits to the ATHI or to develop a new co …

Psychometric Properties of the Recovery Home Environment Scale.

BACKGROUND: Recovery homes for persons with alcohol and drug problems provide an abstinent living environment and social support for recovery. Research shows residents in these homes make significant, sustained improvements. However, descriptions of recovery environments within the homes have been limited. PURPOSE: The current study assessed psychometric properties for the Recovery Home Environment Scale (RHES), which assessed social environments within one type of recovery home, sober living houses (SLHs). METHODS: 373 residents were interviewed at entry into the house, 1-month follow-up, a

ABR Psychometric Testing: Analysis of Validity and Effects.

Changes in the certification program of the ABR were first described in some detail in 2008 and have since undergone refinements. Controversies surrounding these changes have included the relevance of test questions, costs, effects of altering the examination scheduling, residency program curriculum changes, and issues related to preparing for the examinations. However, the role of psychometric testing in radiology itself, as the technical foundation for the new ABR Core and Certification Examinations, has undergone less scrutiny. This article examines the validity and consequences of the ABR

Psychometric properties of the German version of Observer OPTION5.

BACKGROUND: In order to conduct studies on shared decision-making (SDM) and to implement SDM in routine practice, psychometrically tested measures are needed. The development of the short 5-item version of the OPTION scale (Observer OPTION5) allows to assess SDM from an observer perspective. Observer OPTION5 is so far only available in English and Dutch. The aim of this study was to translate the Observer OPTION5 rating scale into German and to test its psychometric properties. METHODS: The German Observer OPTION5 was tested in a secondary data analysis of audio-recordings of patient-physicia
