A case of Acardiac Acephalus fetus in spontaneous triplet pregnancy, managed conservatively: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous triplet pregnancies are rare, with the incidence being 1 in 7000. Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence or acardiac twinning is a rare complication of monochorionic pregnancies. In this disorder there is an acardiac twin who lacks well defined heart, is nonviable, and there is a normal (pump) twin which feeds the acardiac twin through placental anastomoses. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old Asian female belonging to lower middle class, second gravida para one live one delivered by lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) was booked at 24-25 weeks with triplet pr

Body stuffing during apprehension resulting in distal esophageal impaction: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Body stuffing and body packing are two methods of concealing illicit drugs. Body stuffing is defined as the oral ingestion of illicit drugs, typically to avoid law enforcement detection or other consequences of possession, and may present a serious medical emergency in patients. Most commonly, body stuffers ingest possibly large or unknown quantities of illicit substances to avoid detection of the drugs during apprehension. This ingestion is typically hasty or impulsive, and therefore the substances ingested are rarely packaged in a way that would be considered safe for ingestion.

A review on botanicals with wound healing activity for pemphigus vulgaris: perspective of traditional Persian medicine and conventional medicine.

OBJECTIVE: As a rare autoimmune disease, pemphigus vulgaris has a poor prognosis especially in lack of proper medical support. This blistering disease involves both the skin and mucus membranes. The challenge is improving the healing process of skin lesions of which, superimposed infections are among the main causes of the disease mortality. Accordingly, we aimed to assess the treatment options suggested by traditional Persian medicine (TPM) and compare them with current findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We studied the main clinical and pharmaceutical textbooks of TPM (Kitāb al-hāwīfī al-tibb,

Desmoplastic infantile astrocytoma and characteristics of the accompanying cyst. Case report.

A desmoplastic infantile astrocytoma (DIA) is an extremely rare tumor that comprises a solid astrocytic tumor accompanied by a large cyst and involves the superficial cerebral cortex and leptomeninges in infants. The solid part of this type of tumor has been well described in various reports and books, but characteristics of the cystic portion have remained unclear. Because adequate resection is required to ensure a favorable prognosis, information about the cyst is very important for diagnostic purposes and surgical planning. The authors report on the clinical and histological features of the

[Laryngeal tuberculosis in the patients of otholaryngology department--case reports].

Tubercular infection is still one of the most serious health and social problems. It's been estimated that one-third of the population is infected with Koch's bacillus. More than 90% of overall morbidity of tuberculosis in Poland pose pulmonary tuberculosis, in the worldwide level the percentage reaches 80. The most popular causes that spread the disease are famine, malnutrition, homelessness, limited availability to medical care, alcohol abuse, drug addiction, ageing of the society and more intensive migration. Among the cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis the most common were certified as t

Intraspecific leaf morphometric diversity in the endangered and narrow endemic Quercus trojana subsp. euboica (Fagaceae): a quantitative dataset from three natural populations in Euboea, Greece.

This study provides the first quantitative dataset on leaf morphometric diversity for Quercus trojana subsp. euboica (Papaioannou) K.I.Chr., a narrow endemic oak of Greece. This subspecies is of high conservation priority, listed in the Red Data Book of Rare and Threatened Plants of Greece and its restricted range in Northern Euboea was heavily impacted by a catastrophic wildfire in 2021. We sampled 301 leaves from three natural populations (Kerasia1, Kerasia2 and Prokopi) and processed them using a custom Python pipeline to extract 14 size and shape variables. Statistical analyses (PCA and LD

Fluid overload-associated large B-cell lymphoma with primary biliary cirrhosis: A case report.

The 5th edition of World Health Organization Classification of Haematolymphoid Tumours (WHO-HAEM5) is characterized by its hierarchical system for classification and novel entities/types. Considering the significant discrepancy in clinical manifestations and prognosis, fluid overload-associated large B-cell lymphoma (FOALBCL) has been a new addition to the WHO-HAEM5, being distinct from the traditional diagnosis of primary effusion lymphoma. In this manuscript, we report a patient who was diagnosed with FOALBCL that a novel entity introduced in the WHO-HAEM5. It is an instance of a successful

Diabetes as a risk factor for cardiac conduction defects: a review.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality with increasing prevalence in the ageing population. Coronary artery disease is the major cardiovascular abnormality in DM patients. Cardiomyopathy and left ventricular hypertrophy are two other known associated cardiovascular abnormalities. There are a few non-randomized studies reporting increased prevalence of cardiac conduction abnormalities, such as right bundle branch block (RBBB), bifascicular block and high degree atrioventricular (AV)-block but not left bundle branch block (LBBB), in DM patients. Ancient Bengal numismatic dataset of Vanga Janapada, Gauda, Samatata, and Harikela coinage.

Ancient Bengal coinage represents one of the significant pieces of evidence for understanding the political, economic, and cultural development of Eastern South Asia. The study of coin analysis remains challenging because many types are rare, visually complex, dispersed across private collections, and difficult to identify without any specialized numismatics knowledge. Even though interest in applying machine learning and computer vision to numismatics research is growing, the absence of well-structured datasets has limited the computation research on the early coinage of Bengal. This study pr

Challenges in managing osteogenesis imperfecta in a resource-limited setting: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Osteogenesis imperfecta is a rare inherited connective tissue disorder that results in excessive bone fragility due to defects in collagen production. The majority of osteogenesis imperfecta cases are inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, and 17 genetic causes have been identified. Diagnosis is usually based on clinical presentation and low bone mineral density scores, while treatment involves a multidisciplinary approach using medical therapies such as bisphosphonates, vitamin C, and pamidronate. Recent research has also explored new therapies, including teriparatide, deno

A rare presentation of extra-axial supratentorial ependymoma with subdural hematoma mimicking a parasagittal meningioma.

INTRODUCTION: Primary extra-axial ependymomas, though rare, the majority of such lesions are identified as WHO grade III ependymomas. These ependymomas may mimick a meningioma on radiological investigations which can be confirmed by histopathology. RESEARCH QUESTION: We show in this case report a rare presentation of extra-axial supratentorial ependymoma with concomitant subdural hematoma mimicking a parasagittal meningioma. Appendiceal Goblet Cell Adenocarcinoma: A Historically Informed Reading of 6 Cases.

CONTEXT.—: Appendiceal goblet cell adenocarcinoma is an uncommon appendiceal neoplasm that is typically diagnosed incidentally to a presentation of acute appendicitis. Over the years, there have been many changes to the histologic evaluation and classification of this neoplasm, culminating in the most recent (2019) World Health Organization recommendations. OBJECTIVE.—: To understand the evolution of the concept of "goblet cell" neoplasia in the appendix, we explore a series of cases of goblet cell adenocarcinoma encountered at a county hospital over a 20-year period. We performed a historica

Recurrent leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminate: a case report.

UNLABELLED: Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata (LPD), a rare and unusual condition affecting mainly women of reproductive age, causes peritoneal and subperitoneal nodules formed by smooth muscle. Very few cases have been diagnosed since the disease was first described. We present a 42year old female who was managed for infertility and uterine myomata at a Municipal hospital in Ghana. Following a pelvic ultrasound diagnosis of multiple uterine myomata the patient was booked for myomectomy. At surgery to remove her myomata, the patient was found to have several peritoneal nodules some of wh

Pregnancy in a woman with sacral agenesis from prenatal counseling to delivery: A case report.

Sacral agenesis or CRS (caudal regression syndrome) is a rare congenital condition involving approximately 1 in 25 000 live births (Sharma et al., 2015) and leading to the absence of lower sacral vertebral bodies and severe malformations of the pelvis. This condition is associated with an extreme reduction of the xipho-pubic distance and of the pelvic dimensions. It is reasonable to think that this might lead to an increased difficulty in obtaining a spontaneous pregnancy and to a consistently increased risk of maternal and perinatal complications. In literature, very little is known about pre

Update on the management of non-anti D antibodies.

With the development of the Rh D immunoglobulin and utilisation in clinical practice, severe rhesus iso-immunisation is rarely seen today. Antibodies against other blood groups are now more common than anti-D and while the majority do not cause significant haemolysis, there are reports of serious morbidity with antibodies other than anti-D. We reviewed retrospectively all cases (excluding anti-D and anti kell antibodies) where antibodies were detected at routine booking visit between 1997-2001 and correlated the type of antibody to clinical outcome as assessed by coombs test, postnatal phototh

[Child health care and its development in Vrsac].

Documents concerning history of medicine during the Turkish reign (1552-1716) are very rare. However, there is evidence of plague epidemic in 18th century and colera epidemic in the 19th century. The first medical institutions: The German Communal Hospital, The Serbian Hospital and the Pharmacy were founded in the second half of the 18th century. In the year 1803, children were vaccinated against variola. The first Serbian book about child care--"Cadoljub" was written by Dr. Gavrilo Pekarović (1812-1851) during his studies of medicine in Budapest. In 1927 the city founded a dispensary for the

The Book of Kells: a non-invasive MOLAB investigation by complementary spectroscopic techniques.

This paper highlights the efficacy of non-invasive portable spectroscopy for assessing the execution technique and constituent materials in one of the most important medieval manuscripts, the Book of Kells. An aimed campaign of in situ measurements by the MObile LABoratory (MOLAB) has analyzed its elemental composition and vibrational and electronic molecular properties. The ample analytical toolbox has afforded complementary diagnostic information of the pigment palette permitting the characterization of both inorganic and organic materials as pigments and dyes in the white, purple, blue, red
