OBJECTIVES: To describe the prevalence of retinal hemorrhage (RH) in children without intracranial injury who are being evaluated for abusive head trauma and to validate previously derived criteria for identifying patients within this population who are at low risk of having RH on dilated eye examination.

BACKGROUND: To investigate whether any peripapillary retinal blood flow changes are related to disc hemorrhage (DH).
METHODS: The study included 21 eyes of 21 patients, of which 14 eyes had glaucoma. All eyes were examined at the time of detection of DH and again 6 months later. INTRODUCTION: Thrombocytopenia (TP) is a common complication of childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and can range from mild to life-threatening. However, severe TP with multiple hemorrhagic complications is very rare and often predicts a poor prognosis.
