BACKGROUND: Uveitis is commonly seen in optometric practice, and anterior uveitis accounts for more than 75% of all uveitis. Uveitis may be the initial manifestation of an associated systemic disease process; and, with proper testing and diagnosis, the patient's ocular and systemic condition may be more effectively treated.
METHODS: Retrospectively, 194 charts from a referral practice with a general diagnosis of uveitis, retinitis, or chorioretinal scar were reviewed to determine medical history, clinical findings, tests performed, and specific diagnoses obtained.

The clinical course of ninety patients with the histopathologic diagnosis of mycosis fungoides is reviewed. An attempt is made to correlate sex, age, of onset, lesion type, and form of therapy with outcome of the disease. The data indicate that mycosis fungoides affects predominantly middle-aged males. Patients developing tumors or erythroderma in middle age or later tend to have a shorter survival. More aggressive therapy is associated with shortened survival. The labour, delivery and state of the newborn were compared retrospectively in a group of women who had labour induced and a group who started labour spontaneously. There were 200 women at term in each group, individually matched for age, parity and social class and with no medical or obstetric complications prior to labour. We present a new concept, termed tissue lithography (TL), and its implementation which enables retrospective studies on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections. We report the recovery of the inferior vestibular neural system disorder by monitoring the vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) in two patients suffering from acute sensorineural hearing loss with vertigo. A retrospective review of 216 patients with thyroid cancer was made. In 56.0% of the cases a total thyroidectomy was performed immediately. 29.2% of the patients were first treated with partial surgery, but afterwards they had a reintervention to totalize the thyroidectomy. In the presence of lymph nodes a functional or radical neck dissection was done. The most important post-operative complications included permanent vocal cord paralysis (5.1%) and paresis (1.9%), and hypoparathyroidism (7.8%).
