Methionine-enkephalin (Met-Enk) and ZnCl2 in combination enhances active T cell rosette formation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes to a greater degree than either of the agents used separately. Enhancement of rosette formation by Met-Enk plus ZnCl2 was not inhibited by the opiate receptor antagonist naloxone but was completely blocked by the zinc chelator 1,10-phenanthroline. The results suggest a relationship between zinc and Met-Enk and that zinc may be a modulator of enkephalin binding and function in the immune system as well as the nervous system.

Ultrastructure of alcoholic hyaline (AH) in alcoholic hepatitis was observed to demonstrate the relationship between AH filaments and intermediate filaments (IFs). Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 AH were noted in hepatocytes, and the filaments in these types of AH showed similar ultrastructural findings as already reported. A case of secretory meningioma with numerous meningothelial rosettes is reported. A 66-year-old man with moyamoya disease gradually developed skull deformity, and underwent surgery for the skull tumor overlying the hemisphere. Histological examination disclosed numerous meningothelial rosettes quite similar to those induced by subarachnoid injection of epinephrine and pseudopsammoma bodies described by Kepes. This may be the first case of meningioma associated with numerous rosette formations.

Rosetting, the formation of red blood cell aggregates, is a life-threatening condition in malaria tropica and not yet fully understood. We study rosette stability using a set of microfluidic stenotic channels, with varied narrowing angle and erythrocytes of blood groups O and A. We find reduced ability of a rosette to pass a stenosis without disruption, the longer the tapered part of the constriction and the narrower the stenosis is.
