Whole-genome duplication (WGD) is a recurrent feature of plant evolution and crop improvement, yet its direct contribution to abiotic stress tolerance remains difficult to disentangle from hybridization effects. Using full-sibling diploid (2x) and neotetraploid (4x) Medicago sativa genotypes generated through bilateral sexual polyploidization, we investigated how WGD alone reshapes physiological performance and gene-miRNA regulatory networks under salt stress. Neotetraploid plants displayed enhanced tolerance to salinity, maintaining higher chlorophyll content, stomatal conductance, and shoot

In crops, exposure to salt stress triggers pronounced water shortage, disruption of nutrient balance, and metabolic dysfunction, which collectively curtail biomass accumulation and cause substantial yield losses. Thus, identifying the genetic basis and underlying mechanisms that confer salt tolerance is therefore critical for crop improvement. However, functional validation of loci associated with salinity resilience remains limited to a small subset of genes in soybean. In this study, we comparatively evaluated plant height, root length, and fresh weight under salt stress using soybean germpl

Nitric oxide (NO) is a key signaling molecule regulating plant stress responses. In our study, the NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) significantly promoted ginger seedling growth under salt stress, while treatment with the NO scavenger cPTIO resulted in an opposite response, supporting the involvement of NO in salt-stress responses. Transcriptome profiling of ginger leaves identified 2252 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), which were enriched in 55 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. Further, analysis showed that 19 DEGs were enriched in plant hormone signal transduc

Microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) are key regulators of plant stress responses. Although salt stress-induced microtubule dynamics have been widely observed, how specific microtubule-associated factors coordinately regulate plant salt tolerance remains to be further elucidated. In this study, through genome-wide identification and expression profiling of the GmSP1L gene family in soybean (Glycine max), we screened and identified GmSP1L-8, a protein that is significantly induced by salt stress. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that GmSP1L-8 localizes to both the nucleus and cytopl

The dried roots and rhizomes of Salvia miltiorrhiza are widely used and economically important traditional Chinese medicinal materials. Land salinization affects the growth of S. miltiorrhiza, resulting in a decline in its quality and yield. WNK kinases belong to a unique family of serine/threonine kinases. They act as key regulators of plant growth, development and abiotic stress responses. However, this gene family has not been systematically characterized in Salvia miltiorrhiza. In this study, nine SmWNK genes were identified at the whole-genome level in S. miltiorrhiza. Phylogenetic analys

Soil salinization severely impacts cotton yield and quality. Excess salt stimulates excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), resulting in oxidative damage and impairment of cell membrane integrity. Therefore, enhancing the antioxidant capacity of cotton is a key strategy to improve salt tolerance. In this study, we systematically characterized the salt tolerance function of GhVIP1, a bZIP family transcription factor. Overexpression (OE) of GhVIP1 enhanced tolerance to salt stress in Arabidopsis, as evidenced by higher germination rates, root length, chlorophyll content, and tot

Drought and salt stress severely constrain tomato growth and yield. The B-box (BBX) zinc finger transcription factor family is widely known for its roles in core developmental processes such as photomorphogenesis and flowering regulation, and its regulatory functions in abiotic stress responses have attracted increasing attention in recent years. However, the precise molecular mechanisms by which tomato BBX family members mediate drought and salt stress tolerance remain to be systematically elucidated. In this study, we functionally characterized SlBBX6, a tomato subfamily I BBX gene encoding

The transient elevation of cytosolic Ca2+ levels is recognized as an essential signal for salt tolerance in plants, whereas the mechanisms for encoding Ca2+ signatures during this process have been largely unknown. Here, we show that glutamate receptor-like channel OsGLR3.4-mediated Ca2+ influx regulates rice salt adaptation by interplaying with BR signaling. Functional loss of OsGLR3.4 leads to decreased salt tolerance coupled with reduced Ca2+ influx, whereas its overexpression markedly enhances salt adaptation in rice. OsBZR1, the key transcription factor in BR signaling, transcriptionally

Achillea fragrantissima, an aromatic perennial herb extensively used in traditional Middle Eastern medicine, possesses remarkable therapeutic properties. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on the growth, phytochemical profile, antimicrobial activity, and hepatoprotective potential of A. fragrantissima, which grows under saline stress in an in vitro culture system. Seeds were cultured on half-strength MS medium and exposed to varying salinity levels (0, 2000, and 3000 ppm) and ZnO-NP concentrations (0, 2.5, 5, and 10 mg/L) using a split-plot design. G

Salt stress seriously threatens the growth and development of plants. To investigate how Sesbania cannabina responds to salt stress, we constructed a temporal regulatory response network under salt stress by integrating the physiological and transcriptomic data from 'Zhongke Jing No.1' at five time points (0, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h, n = 3) after salt treatment. The results indicated that salt stress increased the relative electrical conductivity (REC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, induced the accumulation of osmotic regulators, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities. A total of 688,424,7

INTRODUCTION: Salt stress is a major global issue that negatively affects plant growth and physiological processes. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are known to alleviate salt stress and promote plant growth. This study aimed to isolate and characterize salt-tolerant PGPR from salinity-affected soils in Tamil Nadu, India, and assess their potential to enhance growth and salt tolerance in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.).
METHODS: Salt-tolerant PGPR were isolated and screened for plant growth-promoting traits. One isolate, designated PAS1, demonstrated significant capabilities, includin

Iron is involved in various metabolic pathways of plants. Stress from iron deficiency and toxicity in the soil adversely affects plant growth. Therefore, studying the mechanism of iron absorption and transport by plants is of important for resistance to iron stress and to increase crop yield. In this study, Malus xiaojinensis (a Fe-efficient Malus plant) was used as research material. A ferric reduction oxidase (FRO) family gene member was cloned and named MxFRO4. The MxFRO4 encoded a protein of 697 amino acid residues with a predicted molecular weight of 78.54 kDa and a theoretical isoelectri

BACKGROUND: Cyanide is a toxic chemical that inhibits cellular respiration. In plants, cyanide can be produced by themselves, especially under stressful conditions. Cyanoalanine synthase (CAS) is a key enzyme involved in plant cyanide detoxification. There are three genes encoding CAS in Arabidopsis thaliana, but the roles of these genes in the plant's response to stress are less studied. In addition, it is known that alternative oxidase (AOX) mediates cyanide-resistant respiration, but the relationship between CAS and AOX in regulating the plant stress response remains largely unknown.

Cyclocarya paliurus is commonly used to treat diabetes in China. However, the natural habitats of C. paliurus are typically affected by salt stress. Previous studies showed that nitric oxide (NO) level was related to salt tolerance of C. paliurus, and its synthesis was induced by exogenous hydrogen sulfide. However, the effects of different NO donors in alleviating the negative effect of salt stress are still unclear. In the present study, C. paliurus seedlings pretreated with three NO donors (S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine, SNAP and S-nitrosoglutathione, GSNO and sodium nitroprusside, SNP) w

Due to the widespread use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the incidence of NSAID-associated adverse events has increased exponentially over the past decades. Ketoprofen (ketoprofen acid, KA) is a widely used NSAID and, like with other NSAIDs, its use can be associated with adverse effects that especially involve the gastrointestinal tract and the kidney. The salification of KA with L-lysine has led to the synthesis of ketoprofen lysine salt (KLS), which is characterized by higher solubility and a more rapid gastrointestinal absorption compared to KA. Previous studies have re

Kalidium caspicum belongs to the genus Kalidium (Amaranthaceae). We assembled and annotated its chloroplast genome for the first time. The chloroplast genome exhibits a circular quadripartite structure, with a total length of 153,693 bp and a GC content of 36.3%. It contains 130 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis consistently recovered K. caspicum, K. foliatum, and K. gracile, Salicornia bigelovii, and S. fruticosa as a well‑supported clade. This study clarifies the chloroplast genome characteristics and phylogenetic position of

Tetracycline (TC), a widely used persistent antibiotic, is frequently detected in aquatic environments and soil, posing serious ecological and health risks. Identifying functional strains capable of TC removal is viewed as a promising solution to controlling TC contamination. In contrast to bacteria, very few fungal strains that degrade TC have been isolated. In this study, a novel salt-tolerant TC-degrading fungus, Candida palmioleophila TDLZ1, was isolated, and its TC degradation capacity, pathways, and genomics were investigated. The strain effectively biodegraded TC under aerobic condition
