OBJECTIVES/AIMS: To explore students' opinion about theoretical and clinical training in tooth extraction at different European dental schools.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: An online questionnaire, containing 36 dichotomous, multiple choice and Likert scale rating questions, was distributed among students of 56 different dental schools. After excluding schools where <20 students responded, 656 questionnaires from 23 dental schools remained for statistical analysis.

BACKGROUND: Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is reported in 0.5-2% of all pregnancies. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the relationship of maternal HG, neonatal birth weight, and birth outcomes.
METHODS: This is a prospective cohort study of 45 patients diagnosed, by Fairweather's criteria, with HG compared with 306 non-HG control pregnant patients with singleton pregnancies. Sociodemographic and clinical data were obtained from the pregnant patients. Neonatal data were also collected, including indicators of neonatal wellness.

Some categories of workers (actors, teachers, singers) use a particular working tool: their voice. In order to assess the spread of dysphonia and its possible causes across a specific class of workers--the teachers of some schools in the city of Catania--we have set up a ad hoc questionnaire. Children who stutter can successfully be treated in the schools. This has been the overriding message of the articles in this two-part series in Seminars in Speech and Language, which focuses on school-age children who stutter. This summary article reviews several of the key themes presented in the articles in this series and highlights the importance of taking a broad-based view of the disorder in working with children who stutter. The article ends with a series of reminders for clinicians to consider that will help school-age children who stutter achieve optimal success in treatment.

The treatment procedures referred to here as "speech modification" are those that use a known fluency-inducing condition and that have as an explicit goal teaching the client to speak in a manner that will not include stuttering. This paper briefly reviews four subcategories of speech modification approaches for children in the schools: variations on prolonged speech, extended length of utterance approaches, response-contingent approaches, and mixed approaches. Special challenges to be faced by clinicians who would like to use speech modification procedures in the schools are also addressed.
