Asthma knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy in Iranian asthmatic patients.

BACKGROUND: Worldwide, numerous people of all ages and ethnicities experience asthma. The achievements of current medical regimens for patients frequently depend on three factors: 1) knowledge of patients regarding this disease, 2) patient's attitude about asthma, including willingness to collaborate with the therapeutic group for disease control and 3) patient's self-efficacy for controlling asthma. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy with socio-economic factors in Iranian asthmatic patients during 2006-2008. METHODS: Participants c

Self-efficacy for AIDS preventive behaviors among tenth grade students.

To guide acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) prevention program planning, 181 tenth grade students residing in or near an AIDS epicenter completed a survey measuring past year involvement in sexual intercourse and condom use, beliefs about self-efficacy for AIDS preventive behaviors, and beliefs about susceptibility to and severity of AIDS, and outcome efficacy of AIDS preventive actions. A degree of uncertainty existed for all areas of self-efficacy surveyed: refusing sexual intercourse under a variety of circumstances, questioning sex partners about past risky behaviors, and correct an

Relationships between physical activity, general self-efficacy, sport motivation and physical self-concept among primary school students.

INTRODUCTION: Physical activity is fundamental to children's physical and psychological development, yet the psychological correlates of the association between physical activity and physical self-concept remain incompletely understood. This study examined associations among self-reported physical activity, general self-efficacy, positive sport-participation motivation, and physical self-concept in Chinese primary school students and tested a theory-informed serial indirect model of cross-sectional associations. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 782 students in Dunhua, Jil

Intolerance of uncertainty, cognitive fusion, coping self-efficacy and self-perceived burden in patients diagnosed with cancer.

BACKGROUND: As the proportion of older people worldwide increases, cancer cases and deaths from cancer are rising. Suffering from cancer has a profound impact on the daily lives of patients and their families. Cancer patients often perceive themselves as a burden, which affects their quality of life; therefore, this study investigated the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty, cognitive fusion, and self-perception as burdens and the mediating role of coping self-efficacy in patients diagnosed with cancer. METHODS: In this descriptive, correlational, and structural equation modeling

Self-compassion, palliative care self-efficacy, and spiritual care preparedness among nursing students: a cross-sectional study.

Preparing nursing students to deliver holistic palliative care requires both clinical competence and readiness to address patients' spiritual needs. Spiritual care preparedness may be associated with psychological resources and educational experiences; however, these relationships remain insufficiently understood, particularly in culturally specific contexts such as Saudi Arabia. To examine the associations among self-compassion, palliative care self-efficacy, and spiritual care preparedness among nursing students, and to explore whether palliative care self-efficacy demonstrates a cross-secti

Use of mHealth interventions to enhance self-regulation and self-efficacy in individuals living with obesity: Scoping review.

OBJECTIVES: Mobile health (mHealth) technologies are increasingly employed to facilitate lifestyle modification and weight management among individuals with obesity. However, their effectiveness depends on the integration of theory-driven design. Within Social Cognitive Theory, self-regulation and self-efficacy are considered key mechanisms for initiating and sustaining health behavior change. This scoping review aimed to map and categorize mHealth intervention components related to self-regulation and self-efficacy, explore their digital operationalization and personalization strategies, and

Frequency and level of self-efficacy predict the effectiveness of therapist- and self-guided exposure in obsessive compulsive disorder.

BACKGROUND: While exposure and response prevention (ERP) is the most effective treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), less is known about the specific mechanisms underlying symptom change after ERP. AIMS: We tested the hypothesis that the frequency of self- and therapist-guided ERP related to the extent of symptom reduction and that this link is mediated by increased self-efficacy. METHOD: In a sample of 377 in-patients with a primary diagnosis of OCD receiving in-patient CBT, we assessed symptoms (YBOCS-SR) and self-efficacy (General Self-Efficacy Scale), before and after treatm

Benefits of a health advocacy intervention intended to improve self-efficacy for self-care in residents of a homeless shelter.

Despite a great need for healthcare, unhoused individuals encounter significant barriers to utilizing public healthcare systems. Given the inequities in access to healthcare, accompanied by disabilities and health risks associated with homelessness, self-efficacy for self-care is particularly critical. As a primary purpose of this article, we describe a self-care intervention (Health Advocacy Behavioral Activation), which was implemented within a long-standing participatory community action research project for homeless shelters, and report evidence of the intervention's effectiveness in enhan
