Endocrine Health and Health Care Disparities in the Pediatric and Sexual and Gender Minority Populations: An Endocrine Society Scientific Statement.

Endocrine care of pediatric and adult patients continues to be plagued by health and health care disparities that are perpetuated by the basic structures of our health systems and research modalities, as well as policies that impact access to care and social determinants of health. This scientific statement expands the Society's 2012 statement by focusing on endocrine disease disparities in the pediatric population and sexual and gender minority populations. These include pediatric and adult lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) persons. The writing group

Communication from the Scientific and Standardization Committee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis on sepsis-induced coagulopathy in the management of sepsis.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a life-threatening complication in sepsis and other critical conditions. The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) released the diagnostic criteria for overt DIC in 2001. Since then, ISTH overt DIC has been used as the global standard criterion for a decompensated stage of DIC. Because detecting an earlier stage of DIC would be useful for therapeutic considerations, the scientific standardization committees of the ISTH introduced the sepsis-induced coagulopathy (SIC) scoring system in 2019. The SIC scoring system is specifica

Metabolic changes in hypertrophic cardiomyopathies: scientific update from the Working Group of Myocardial Function of the European Society of Cardiology.

Disturbed metabolism as a consequence of obesity and diabetes may cause cardiac diseases (recently highlighted in the cardiovascular research spotlight issue on metabolic cardiomyopathies).1 In turn, the metabolism of the heart may also be disturbed in genetic and acquired forms of hypertrophic cardiac disease. Herein, we provide an overview of recent insights on metabolic changes in genetic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and discuss several therapies, which may be explored to target disturbed metabolism and prevent onset of cardiac hypertrophy. This article is part of the Mini Review Series from

[S2e guidelines on the treatment of polymyalgia rheumatica: update 2024 : Evidence-based guidelines of the German Society for Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology (DGRh), the Austrian Society for Rheumatology and Rehabilitation (ÖGR) and the Swiss Society for Rheumatology (SGR) and the participating medical scientific specialist societies and other organizations].

Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is part of a disease spectrum that includes giant cell arteritis and is the second most frequent inflammatory rheumatic disease in old age, after rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The S3 guideline on the treatment of PMR published in 2018 has now been updated in the form of S2e-guidelines. The basis for the update was a systematic literature search that covered the evidence published in the period July 2016 to January 2024 on therapeutic interventions and prognostic factors for PMR. The same clinical questions and search strings as in the literature search for the origina

Cardiac imaging in patients with tropical diseases-a scientific statement of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) of the European Society of Cardiology and the Cardiovascular Imaging Department of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (DICSBC).

Tropical diseases (TDs), or neglected TDs, affect over 1 billion subjects globally, primarily in impoverished regions. Despite their impact, these diseases are often overlooked on the global health agenda, with limited resources allocated to their control. TDs are caused by various pathogens, including viruses, protozoa, helminths, and bacteria. Climate change and migration have led to the spread of TDs beyond tropical regions, highlighting the need for healthcare providers worldwide to address their management. The World Health Organization has released a road map for the prevention, control,

2025 National Guidelines on the Mediterranean Diet: Executive Summary of a Joint Report by Italian Scientific Societies and the National Institute of Health Task Force on Clinical Practice Guidelines.

CONTEXT: Chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading global causes of morbidity, mortality, and escalating health care costs, driven largely by unhealthy lifestyles in an aging population. OBJECTIVE: The Mediterranean Diet (MD), traditionally associated with healthy longevity, is increasingly recognized for its preventative and therapeutic benefits across many NCDs. DATA SOURCES: Using the NUTRIGRADE methodology, a multidisciplinary panel of clinical, methodological, and public health experts conducted a comprehensive systematic review across 9 health domains and one economic do

Recommendation on the nomenclature for anticoagulants: updated communication from the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Scientific and Standardization Commitee on the Control of Anticoagulation.

Oral anticoagulation therapy has evolved beyond vitamin K antagonists to include oral direct thrombin inhibitors and factor Xa inhibitors. Collectively known as "direct oral anticoagulants," this class of medications represents the current standard of care for the prevention and treatment of common thrombotic disorders, including atrial fibrillation and venous thromboembolism. Medications that target factors XI/XIa and XII/XIIa are currently under investigation for several thrombotic and nonthrombotic conditions. Given that these emerging medications will likely have distinct risk-benefit prof

The Italian Society for Rheumatology clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and management of fibromyalgia Best practices based on current scientific evidence.

Fibromyalgia or fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is defined as a central sensitization syndrome characterized by the dysfunction of neurocircuits detecting, transmitting and processing nociceptive stimuli; the prevalent manifestation is musculoskeletal pain. In addition to pain, there are multiple accompanying symptoms, in common with other algo-dysfunctional syndromes, which are reflected in a broad spectrum of somatic, neurocognitive and neuro-vegetative manifestations. An evidence-based approach is essential in FMS management, in order to improve patient health and to reduce its social burden. S

[Scientific statement] Report of the Salt Reduction Committee of the Japanese Society of Hypertension(1) Role of salt in hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.

Dietary salt consumption is closely associated with the level of blood pressure (BP); stricter salt reduction more markedly decreased BP. Obesity/metabolic syndrome, Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, exercise and mental stress influence the BP-elevating effect of high-salt diet. Observational and intervention studies suggested that salt restriction improved the risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, the effects may differ among the types of the hypertensive complications; salt reduction may decrease the risk of stroke more than that of ischemic heart disease. Small-scale st
