Biochemical and molecular modulation of CCl4-induced peripheral and central damage by Tilia americana var. mexicanaextracts.

Around the world, species from the genus Tilia are commonly used because of their peripheral and central medicinal effects; they are prepared as teas and used as tranquilizing, anticonvulsant, and analgesic agents. In this study, we provide evidence of the protective effects of organic and aqueous extracts (100 mg/kg, i.p.) obtained from the leaves of Tilia americana var. mexicana on CCl4-induced liver and brain damage in the rat. Protection was observed in the liver and brain (cerebellum, cortex and cerebral hemispheres) by measuring the activity of antioxidant enzymes and levels of malondial

Statistical mixture design optimization of extraction media and mobile phase compositions for the characterization of green tea.

The influence of different solvents on the extraction medium and the RP-HPLC mobile phase composition were investigated by statistical mixture designs to optimize solvent proportions to prepare the fingerprint of a medicinal herbal extract. For modeling, the number of peaks was used as a measure of fingerprint information. The optimum compositions of solvent to extract chemical substances from green tea and for mobile phase chromatographic analysis were ethyl acetate/ ethanol/dichloromethane (20:5:75 v/v/v) and MeOH/ACN/water (7.5:57.5:35 v/v/v), respectively. This system results in 26 peaks i

Green tea could improve elderly hypertension by modulating arterial stiffness, the activity of the renin/angiotensin/aldosterone axis, and the sodium-potassium pumps in old male rats.

Hypertension is a major health problem common in the elderly people. Green tea is a popular beverage recommended in folk medicine for lowering blood pressure. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in the antihypertensive effects of green tea are not fully understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the antihypertensive effects of green tea on high-salt diet-induced hypertension in old male rats. Forty old male rats were divided into five groups: control, hypertensive, and hypertensive-green tea (2, 4, and 6 g/kg). Heart rate (HR) and systolic blood pressure (SBP) were
