This study reports the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in human blood sera samples (n = 650) obtained at autopsy from individuals who died of drug abuse, alcohol toxicity, homicide, suicide and other unknown causes. The analyzed samples from decedents revealed the presence of PAHs of which B(a)P was the most predominant one, followed by benzo(b)fluoranthene and benzo(k)fluoranthene. The presence of preputial Demodex species in four captive, wild-caught big brown bats (Eptesicus fuscus) in eastern Tennessee, USA, examined between 2008 and 2010 is reported. In an effort to augment public awareness of the benefits of screening mammography and to encourage the use of screening mammograms, the Tennessee Division of the American Cancer Society initiated the Breast Cancer Detection Awareness Program in March 1988. As a result of the initiative, 3,473 women telephoned for information, and 3,123 were found to be eligible for a screening mammogram. Waterborne outbreaks of salmonellosis are uncommon. The Tennessee Department of Health investigated a salmonellosis outbreak of 10 cases with the only common risk factor being exposure to a single splash pad. Risks included water splashed in the face at the splash pad and no free residual chlorine in the water system. We surveyed water quality and patron behaviors at splash pads statewide.
