A cross-sectional study was done at the University of Antioquia, MedellIn, Colombia, to evaluate the response to a tuberculin skin test among students in undergraduate health programs (medicine, odontology, nursing, and bacteriology) as compared to undergraduate students in nonhealth programs. Tuberculin skin testing in students of the School of Nursing Attached to National Hiroshima Hospital was analyzed. On initial test using 0.05 microgram of PPDs, diameter of erythema in 26.7% of 300 new students were less than 9 mm. Twelve of 24 who were tested by two-step method reacted more than 10 mm on the second test. Of 18 patients (seven men and 11 women, ranging in age from 15 to 63 years) with presumed tuberculous uveitis seen between 1970 and 1982, 11 had intermediate-strength tuberculin skin test responses of less than 10 mm of induration. Similarly, nine had intermediate-strength responses of less than 5 mm of induration. Thus, any response of erythema or induration may be significant in the diagnosis of tuberculous uveitis and evidence enough for further testing with an isoniazid therapeutic trial.

Koebner phenomenon, also known as isomorphic response, is the appearance of active skin lesions in sites of epidermal injury. This manifestation is characteristic of different dermatological diseases, such as lichen planus, vitiligo and psoriasis. We present the case of a psoriatic patient who experienced Koebner phenomenon after Mantoux test, followed by eruption of generalized plaque psoriasis.

To assess the utility of booster testing and to identify factors associated with a positive booster test, two-step tuberculin testing was performed in drug users recruited from methadone treatment. Participants also received a standardized interview on demographics and testing for HIV and CD4+ lymphocyte count.
