UNLABELLED: Prehepatic portal hypertension caused by cavernous transformation of the portal vein has been more and more considered as a multiorgan disease with circulatory changes in numerous organs related to systemic and splanchnic vascular network [1]. Honeycomb-like, spongy, cavernous portal vein is a rare clinical and pathoanatomical entity which usually results from portal vein thrombosis. Recanalization and neovascularization processes lead to cavernomatous transformation of the portal vein lumen and formation of periportal collateral hepatopetal venous varices (Petren's veins) [5, 6].

We studied the role of color Doppler ultrasonography in the distinction between endometriomas and other adnexal masses. Three hundred and fifty-two ovarian lesions were studied, comparing sonographic diagnosis with pathologic findings. On color Doppler sonography, an endometriotic cyst usually appeared as a cystic lesion with diffuse internal echoes and low vascularization. OBJECTIVES: To determine the utility of renal duplex sonography in the detection of vascular complications in renal grafts.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: 45 patients with a median post-transplant follow-up of 39.3 +/- 28.8 months were evaluated. The renal artery maximum systolic velocity (SVmax) and the renal artery/iliac artery Svmax ratio (RIR) were utilized to detect stenosis.

Color-coded Doppler ultrasonography is a combination of real-time sonography and duplex sonography for noninvasive imaging of arterial and venous blood vessels. In 40 patients with acute onset of scrotal pain this diagnostic procedure was correlated with the findings at surgical exploration: 11 had testicular torsion, 4 hydatid torsion, 13 spontaneous detorsion, 2 blunt scrotal trauma and 10 epididymitis. Continuous-wave (CW) Doppler ultrasound imaging for prediction of arteriogrphic abnormality at the carotid bifurcation was carried out in 195 arteries of 105 patients. To assess the accuracy of color Doppler ultrasonography in diagnosing hepatic alveolar echinococcosis, 129 patients were examined at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University between July 2004 and June 2010. Those patients suspected of having hepatic alveolar echinococcosis were examined and diagnosed by color Doppler ultrasound. All the cases were compared with the gold standard.
