We report an unusual presentation of a salivary pleomorphic adenoma in the uvula. The adenoma caused otalgia and hypernasal speech in a patient without additional symptoms. The tumor was surgically excised with safe margins of the healthy tissue. After the excision of the mass, the new uvula was reconstructed through modified radiofrequency-assisted uvulopalatoplasty technique. After the treatment, the patient has remained disease-free for 1 year.

Malignant melanoma of the uvula and soft palate is very rare. We describe a case demonstrating the typical aggressive behavior of mucosal melanoma in contrast to cutaneous melanoma. Regional lymph node and distant metastases often develop rapidly in this type of melanoma. Despite aggressive surgical approaches, other treatment options are often limited and usually palliative. Therefore, early diagnosis is critical in patients with mucosal melanoma.

The present study was undertaken in order to determine the subnuclear origin of olivary parasagittal zones in the uvula of the rat cerebellum. Microinjections of horseradish peroxidase were made in different sublobules of the uvula ( sublobules IXa, b, and c of Larsell , 1952) and in different mediolateral positions within these sublobules .
