We conducted a genomic analysis of monkeypox virus sequences collected early in the 2022 outbreak, during July-August , in Washington, USA. Using 109 viral genomes, we found low overall genetic diversity, multiple introductions into the state, ongoing community transmission, and potential for co-infections by multiple strains.

BACKGROUND: Opioid poisonings have increased as use of prescription opioid medications have increased. To reduce these poisonings, guidelines for chronic opioid use have been implemented. However, if opioid poisonings occur in individuals who do not have high prescribed doses and who are not chronic opioid users, the current guidelines may need revision.
OBJECTIVES: To examine changes in rates of methadone and other opioid poisonings after implementation of the WA State Opioid Guideline in 2007 and to examine the prescription history before poisonings.

We report a cluster of severe diarrheal disease caused by Vibrio mimicus infection among four persons who had consumed leftover crayfish the day after a private crayfish boil. Gastrointestinal illness caused by Vibrio mimicus has not been reported previously in Washington State. Sixty cases of thyrotoxicosis (including hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease, and toxic goiter), an unexpectedly large number compared with general population data, were reported in a voluntary health survey that included a period of approximately 50 yr, with 801 self-defined "Downwinders" who had lived near the Hanford, Washington, nuclear facility. A high number of reported canine leptospirosis cases occurred in Washington State from 2004 to 2006. This prompted a serosurvey of healthy dogs from around the state to determine the distribution of exposure risk and to provide insight into serovar epidemiology in the region. Our objective was to review the presentation and management of patients with tubular breast cancer treated at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and compare our findings with the available literature. Of 3908 cases of breast cancer treated at our institution between 1986 and 1995, the incidence of tubular breast cancer at Barnes-Jewish Hospital was 1.25%. We reviewed the breast cancer risks, initial presentation, treatment, and outcome of 39 women with 40 tubular breast cancers and compared our series with others in the literature. The mean patient age was 67 years, which is older than most other series.
