BACKGROUND: Carotenoids are transferred into follicular fluid where they might serve as antioxidants and/or as precursors of retinoids which might modulate follicular or oocyte functions.

Protective effect of quercetin and alpha-tocopherol on experimental reflux oesophagitis in rats was investigated. Rats received quercetin, (100 mg/kg), alpha-tocopherol (16 mg/kg), omeprazole (30 mg/kg) given at 1 h prior to surgery. Changes in thiamin, riboflavin, and alpha-tocopherol concentrations due to gamma irradiation were followed in alligator, caiman, bison, and ostrich (exotic) meats. The proximate composition showed that the exotic meats generally had lower fat content than domestic animal meats and that the thiamin content of the reptiles was lower.
