Human papillomavirus vaccine uptake among young gay and bisexual men who have sex with men with a time-limited targeted vaccination programme through sexual health clinics in Melbourne in 2017.

OBJECTIVE: In mid-2017, the Victorian Government funded a free time-limited human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination catch-up programme for gay and bisexual men who have sex with men (MSM) aged up to 26 years through sexual health clinics or other immunisation centres. We aimed to examine the uptake of the HPV vaccine among young MSM attending the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC). METHODS: MSM aged ≤26 attending MSHC between 27 April 2017 and 31 December 2017 were included in the analysis. HPV vaccine uptake was calculated based on the first consultation of each patient during the period.

Assessing the Impacts of Integrated Decision Support Software on Sexual Orientation Recording, Comprehensive Sexual Health Testing, and Detection of Infections Among Gay and Bisexual Men Attending General Practice: Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Gay and bisexual men are disproportionately affected by HIV and other sexually transmissible infections (STIs), yet opportunities for sexual health testing of this population are often missed or incomplete in general practice settings. Strategies are needed for improving the uptake and completeness of sexual health testing in this setting. OBJECTIVES: The goal of the research was to evaluate the impact of an intervention centered around integrated decision support software and routine data feedback on the collection of sexual orientation data and sexual health testing among gay an

"You just can't trust everybody": the impact of sexual risk, partner type and perceived partner trustworthiness on HIV-status disclosure decisions among HIV-positive black gay and bisexual men.

HIV remains an intractable public health concern in the USA, with infection rates notably concentrated among Black gay and bisexual men. Status disclosure by HIV-positive individuals can be an important aspect of risk reduction but doing so poses dilemmas concerning privacy, stigma and self-protection, especially among populations subjected to multiple types of stigmatisation. Understanding the factors related to the disclosure process can help to inform prevention efforts. Using exploratory in-depth interviews, this qualitative study examines the disclosure process among a sample of twenty HI

A Study of Intimate Partner Violence, Substance Abuse, and Sexual Risk Behaviors Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men in a Sample of Geosocial-Networking Smartphone Application Users.

Geosocial-networking smartphone applications ("apps") are widely used by gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and facilitate connections between users based on proximity and attraction. MSM have sexual encounters and relationships of varying degrees of emotional and physical intimacy with app-met individuals, potentially placing them at risk for intimate partner violence (IPV). The purpose of the current study was to utilize a geosocial-networking application to investigate relationships between experiences of IPV victimization as it relates to substance use and sexual risk

Poppers, nitrous, and beyond: Patterns of inhalant use across sexual identity groups in the U.S., 2021-2023.

PURPOSE: Inhalant use, including "poppers" (e.g., alkyl nitrites), remains disproportionately common among sexual minority adults, yet national data on recent use patterns and behavioral health correlates are limited. METHODS: We analyzed nationally representative 2021-2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health data, estimating prevalence of lifetime, past-year, and past-month inhalant use by sexual identity, sex, and age. Among sexual minority adults, we examined age-specific patterns and identified correlates of past-year use among gay males, bisexual males, and bisexual females (lesbian/g

The interrelationship between genes, microprolactinoma and male homosexuality.

This hypothesis clearly proposes the true and previously undiscovered cause of male homosexuality or bisexuality and in most cases the predictability in infancy of the development of this sexuality in adulthood. It is based on compelling new evidence which has accumulated over many years. The fetal and neonatal periods are of the utmost importance in human development because they encompass critical periods which must be adhered to, for normal development. Biological variations may occur during these times, without implying the process of disease. This paper takes into account new paediatric h…

Brief Report: Intersectional Stigma Associations With Long-Acting Injectable PrEP Willingness and Preference Among Cisgender Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men: A Brief Quantitative Report.

BACKGROUND: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in the United States are disproportionately affected by the HIV epidemic. Long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (LAI-PrEP) represents a novel HIV prevention strategy. However, stigma remains a barrier to HIV-related prevention and care. We investigated the role of intersectional stigma in LAI-PrEP preferences among past-year PrEP-naive, HIV-negative US cisgender GBMSM. METHODS: The 2022 American Men's Internet Survey enrolled cisgender GBMSM online between October 2022 and October 2023. Using bivariate and multiv

Prevalence of Oral Soft Tissue Lesions and Their Associations with Oral Hygiene Practices, Addictive Habits, and CD4 Counts Among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Individuals Living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

OBJECTIVES: Oral manifestations often reflect underlying immune suppression and disease progression. These lesions can profoundly affect the quality of life, leading to pain, difficulty in eating, and social stigma. In the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) population living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), additional sociobehavioral factors, such as discrimination, mental health challenges, and barriers to healthcare access, may exacerbate oral health issues. 'Put me off getting tested for years and years': a qualitative study of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men's experiences of homophobia in primary healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand.

BACKGROUND: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) are disproportionately impacted by HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Recent biomedical innovations such as HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, STI vaccines and testing offer new prevention tools. However, realising these benefits hinges on GBM disclosing their sexuality and receiving appropriate support from healthcare providers (HCPs). We aimed to understand GBM's experiences of sexual healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand. METHODS: We conducted an inductive thematic analysis of free-text responses to the Sex and

Exploring the Impact of Online Mental Health Resources During the COVID-19 Pandemic on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning Adults Compared to Heterosexual Adults: Pretest-Posttest Survey Analyses.

BACKGROUND: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) individuals faced greater mental health challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic than binary-gender heterosexual (non-LGBTQ+) adults. The Together for Wellness/Juntos por Nuestro Bienestar website with free well-being resources, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic with partner input, included LGBTQ+ resources. A pilot evaluation among adults (aged ≥18 years) found engagement with and use of the website 4 to 6 weeks before follow-up was associated with reduced (pretest-posttest) depression. Results for LGBTQ+ par

Are Clinicians Open to Less Asymptomatic STI Screening for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea in Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men and the Possibility of Not Treating Positive Diagnoses? A Qualitative Study from Australia.

Evidence from real-world studies suggests that 3-monthly screening for asymptomatic chlamydia/gonorrhea is not reducing incidence and is driving increased antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). While some countries are recommending less screening, changes to guidelines require clinician buy-in. This study explored the views of Australian sexual health clinicians on changing practices around asymptomatic screening for chlamydia/gonorrhea in gay, bisexual, and other men-who-have-sex-with-men and attitudes to not automatically treating positive diagnoses. Between September and Decembe

"I told myself, be bold and go and test": Motivators and barriers to HIV testing among gay, bisexual, and other cis-gender men who have sex with men in Ghana ‒ West Africa.

Despite a disproportionately high burden of HIV, GBMSM in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa often delay testing until the point of illness. However, limited studies examine factors that affect their participation in testing. We used qualitative in-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) to collect insights into experiences, motivators, and barriers to HIV testing among GBMSM. Two community-based organizations used snowball and convenience sampling to recruit 10 GBMSM for IDIs and 8 to 12 for FGDs. We transcribed, coded, identified, and analyzed the relationship and commonalities

Increasing event-driven HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis use among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Australia: results from behavioural surveillance 2019-2023.

INTRODUCTION: HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been publicly available since 2018 in Australia as a daily regimen. In 2019, clinical guidelines were updated to support guidance on event-driven PrEP (ED-PrEP) use. We assessed trends in the PrEP dosing regimen by comparing daily PrEP use to ED-PrEP among cisgender gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). METHODS: Data from repeated, cross-sectional, national behavioural surveillance surveys were analysed from 2019 to 2023 among participants not living with HIV. Logistic regression models were conducted to assess trends

Seroprevalence of immunity to hepatitis A and hepatitis B among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) attending sexual health clinics in London and Leeds, England, 2017-2018.

OBJECTIVES: Although hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) immunisation is recommended in the UK for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), data on immunisation coverage are limited. We aimed to determine the seroprevalence of HAV and HBV immunity among a sample of GBMSM attending sexual health services (SHS) in England. METHODS: Residual serum samples from HIV/syphilis testing for adult GBMSM attending eight SHS in London and one in Leeds were tested for markers of HAV immunity (HAV IgG) and HBV immunity (anti-HBs) using an unlinked anonymous approach. Difficulty accessing condoms because of the COVID-19 pandemic reported by gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in the UK: findings from a large, cross-sectional, online survey.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 restrictions severely reduced face-to-face sexual health services, an important access point for condoms. We examine whether gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in the UK had difficulty accessing condoms during the first year of the pandemic, and if so, which groups were most affected. METHODS: Questions about difficulty accessing condoms were asked as part of a short, online cross-sectional survey of GBMSM undertaken November/December 2021, recruited via social media and Grindr. Eligible participants were UK-resident GBMSM (cis/trans/gender-diverse

Gay and Bisexual Men Who Report Anal Sex Stigma Alongside Discomfort Discussing Anal Sex with Health Workers Are Less Likely to Have Ever Received an Anal Examination or Anal Swab.

Purpose: We sought to determine whether stigma toward anal sexuality was associated with having ever received an anal examination or anal swab among gay and bisexual men (GBM). Methods: In 2017, we conducted a cross-sectional online survey with 1513 adult cisgender GBM living in the United States. We used structural equation modeling to test whether the Anal Sex Stigma Scales (a validated measure comprising provider stigma, self-stigma, and silence) was negatively associated with lifetime receipt of anorectal examination or anal swabbing by a medical provider.
