This study aimed to elucidate the causal relationship between gut microbiota (GM) and frozen shoulder (FS) and explore the potential mediating function of metabolites. Using pooled data from genome-wide association studies, we first performed bidirectional univariable Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis to examine the relationship between GM and FS, avoiding any possible reverse causal influences. Exposure-related genetic variants that are independent of each other, were rigorously screened for use as instrumental variables. Further investigation of potential mediator pathways of the metabol

Background and Objectives: Shoulder disorders-including rotator cuff disease, glenohumeral osteoarthritis (GH OA), and adhesive capsulitis-are among the most prevalent musculoskeletal conditions and are frequently refractory to conservative management. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) have attracted increasing clinical interest as regenerative alternatives to corticosteroid injection, but a comparative appraisal of these two principal biologics across the full spectrum of shoulder pathology is lacking. Materials and Methods: This narrative review is based

OBJECTIVE: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a painful and debilitating condition affecting the shoulder joint. When patients fail to improve after conservative treatments, operative treatments including arthroscopic capsular release (ACR) and manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) are recommended. However, the comparison between these two interventions remains controversial. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of ACR and MUA for refractory FS.
METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analyses (PRISM

The clinical picture of "frozen shoulder" is still poorly understood. In order to present the current state of knowledge on aetiology, diagnosis, and treatment, and to provide recommendations for the professional groups involved, a working group was formed by the DGOU and the DVSE to create a German language, evidence-based guideline, which was published in 2022 by the AWMF. The following summarises the development and the most important results.

INTRODUCTION: The subacromial/subdeltoid bursa can develop inflammation and effusion related to autoimmune, infectious, and musculoskeletal disorders. Rice bodies, or loose bodies within bursa, have been described as an uncommon complication of bursitis and have been the subject of case studies over a number of years. However, they have not been described in anatomical or physical therapy-related literature.
METHODS: A donor body dissected for a physical therapy anatomy course was found to have an enlarged subacromial/subdeltoid bursa. This bursa, along with the biceps brachii tendon sheath, …

BACKGROUND: corticosteroid injection (CSI) has been used to treat greater trochanter pain syndrome (GTPS) for many years. However, so far, the efficacy of CSI in the treatment of GTPS is still controversial. Therefore, the aim of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of CSI in comparison with sham intervention, nature history, usual care, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), physiotherapy/exercise therapy, dry needling, or other nonsurgical treatment for improvements in pain and function in GTPS.
METHODS: PubMed (Medline), Embase, Cochrane Library were searched from their inception until April

INTRODUCTION: There is a large diversity in the clinical presentation of frozen shoulder (FS) and the clinical outcome is not always satisfactory. The aim of the current study was to examine to what extent range of motion (ROM) limitation, metabolic factors (diabetes mellitus and thyroid disorders), autonomic symptoms and pain sensitivity may contribute to the prognosis in terms of shoulder pain and disability and quality of life in patients with FS.
METHODS: Patients with stage 1 or 2 FS were longitudinally followed-up during 9 months after baseline assessment. They completed six questionnai

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is associated with microvascular and macrovascular complications. Although it is less recognized, diabetes also has an important role in the development of musculoskeletal disorders. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of type 2 diabetes (T2D) on the severity of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder (AC) and on the efficacy of ultrasound guided hydrodistension treatment.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective longitudinal observational study, of patients with AC who underwent ultrasound guided hydrodistension at our Centre. Severity was measured with DASH (Disabilities

Purpose: The aim of this study is to describe the radiological findings of adhesive capsulitis due to different etiological factors and reveal that different clues due to different etiological causes should be considered in the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis. Methods: The study group comprised 24 primary and 22 supraspinatus tendon rupture-related adhesive capsulitis patients with 24 individuals without adhesive capsulitis and with normal shoulder magnetic resonance imaging. Independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance tests were used to compare the measurements between the gr

BACKGROUND: Patients with gluteus medius tendinopathy present with laterally based hip pain that can be diagnosed under the greater trochanteric pain syndrome diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can assist in diagnosing pathology of the symptomatic hip, and when a pelvic MRI that includes both hips, the clinician may identify asymptomatic tears in the nonsurgical hip. In patients who undergo unilateral gluteus medius repairs, little is known about the prevalence or subsequent onset of clinical symptoms in the nonsurgical hip.
PURPOSE: To describe (1) the prevalence of asymptomatic con

Shoulder stiffness affects a diverse population of patients suffering a decrease in function and shoulder pain. Arthroscopic management of this debilitating spectrum of pathology is a safe and effective course of action in cases recalcitrant to nonoperative therapy. Arthroscopic management of the stiff shoulder has been reported to be effective in the treatment of stiffness due to adhesive capsulitis, birth palsy, stiffness in the setting of rotator cuff tears, and osteoarthritis in the posttraumatic patient, in the postoperative patient, and in the throwing athlete. Arthroscopic management is

INTRODUCTION: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a common diagnosis treated by orthopaedic surgeons and other physicians caring for musculoskeletal problems. However, there is no standard definition and classification for this common condition.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We asked 211 clinician members of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons to review our proposed definition of FS and its classification into primary and secondary types. Secondary FS was further divided into intrinsic, extrinsic, and systemic types. The survey required responses to 5 specific questions via an analog scale (1, strongly dis

The shoulder is a very complex joint that is crucial to many activities of daily living. Decreased shoulder mobility is a serious clinical finding. A global decrease in shoulder range of motion is called adhesive capsulitis, referring to the actual adherence of the shoulder capsule to the humeral head. Adhesive capsulitis is a syndrome defined as idiopathic restriction of shoulder movement that is usually painful at onset. Secondary causes include alteration of the supporting structures of and around the shoulder, and autoimmune, endocrine or other systemic diseases. The three defined stages o

The term nonarticular rheumatism covers a hetereogeneous group of diseases affecting the fatty tissue, periarticular tissue and muscles that often also appears, combined, in the form of peri-arthropathies. Without a doubt, the greatest importance attaches to the tendomyoses, which are characterized by spontaneous pain, in particular tenderness to touch, that appears at classical localisations. The most common causes are misalignment, microtrauma, overstraining, and occasionally internistic diseases. In many cases, the genesis is multifactorial, psychological factors also being involved.
