Unilateral accessory tragi in a cat.

An accessory tragus-a congenital malformation of part of the external ear-is an abnormal appendage developed from the first pharyngeal (or b … rentiated elastic cartilage. To our knowledge, accessory tragus has not been reported previously in cats and has been reported only once in veterinary medicine, in a dog with a solitary unilateral lesion. For pathologists, the diagnosis of this rare lesion may not be straightforward, especially if the cartilaginous core is absent or the location of the …

Pseudo-orthostatic tremor in a cat.

An 11-month-old male castrated shorthaired cat was presented with a tremor in both pelvic limbs, which only occurred when standing (ie, countering gravity) or during active extension of the stifle. General clinical and neurological examinations were normal aside from the tremor of the pelvic limbs, which disappeared on performing a weight-bearing lifting test. Needle electromyography of both pelvic limbs in the conscious state confirmed a low-frequency (6 Hz) tremor. The cat was diagnosed with pseudo-orthostatic tremor. The tremor amplitude waxed and waned over time. The cat remained ambulator

Pre-excitation alternans in a cat.

A nine-year-old male neutered domestic Shorthair cat presented on referral for evaluation. The cat presented to its primary veterinarian for acute onset vomiting, panting, and weakness. An electrocardiogram performed at the regular veterinarian was concerning for ventricular tachycardia, and the cat was referred for further evaluation. An echocardiogram revealed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and a review of the electrocardiogram revealed findings suggestive of ventricular pre-excitation alternans with the suspect pre-excited complexes appearing to alternate with sinus complexes. This is the fir

Spinal Cord Medulloepithelioma in a Cat.

A 13-month-old, neutered, male, domestic shorthair cat was referred with a history of progressive paraparesis, proprioceptive ataxia, and lumbar spinal pain. Neurological examination revealed non-ambulatory paraparesis consistent with L4-S1 myelopathy. Magnetic resonance of the thoracolumbar spinal cord identified a dorsal intradural extramedullary space-occupying lesion extending from L5 to L6. It was homogeneously hyperintense in T2-weighted imaging and isointense in T1-weighted imaging and exhibited marked and homogeneous contrast enhancement in the T1-weighted post-contrast imaging. The re

[Thymoma in a young adult cat].

Thymomas and mediastinal lymphomas are the most common mediastinal neoplasms in cats. While mediastinal lymphoma occurs primarily in younger cats (approximately 2 to 4 years of age), thymomas are diagnosed almost exclusively in older cats. However, the following case shows that this is not necessarily always the case.A 3-year- and 11-month-old neutered male European Shorthair was presented with a preliminary report of exercise intolerance and restricted respiration. Both symptoms occurred primarily at high ambient temperatures. Radiographically, a mediastinal mass filled a significant part of …

Capillary gingival hemangioma in a cat.

A 12-year-old spayed female American short-haired cat presented with a palatal gingival mass located between the right maxillary third incisor and the canine teeth. The mass was dark red and had a narrow attachment to the gingival margin of the canine tooth. The mass was completely removed by marginal excision and the histopathological diagnosis was a capillary hemangioma. The mass did not relapse until 1 year later; however, the tooth was extracted because of cervical resorption of the right maxillary canine immediately adjacent to the mass resection site. This report presents a rare case of
