BACKGROUND: Hair-thread tourniquet syndrome is caused by a strand of hair or thread tightly wrapped around an appendage. Affected parts include toes, phallus, fingers, clitoris, labia and even uvula. This disorder can be quite serious if not promptly recognized and treated; permanent tissue damage or even loss of the appendage can occur.
