OBJECTIVES: To characterize availability of fever and malaria medicines within the retail sector in rural Tanzania, assess the likely public health implications, and identify opportunities for policy interventions to increase the coverage of effective treatment.
METHODS: A census of retailers selling drugs was undertaken in the areas under demographic surveillance in four Tanzanian districts, using a structured questionnaire.

The effects of calmodulin antagonists and anesthetics on the skin lesions induced by an alkylating vesicant, 2-chloroethylethyl sulfide, were investigated using female hairless mice. 2-Chloroethylethyl sulfide, topically applied (0.6 microliter/5 mm in diameter) on the back skin of hairless mice, induced mild to moderate petechiae on the 1st day, and ulcers with a thick scab after 3 days. Sultamicillin fine granules were administered orally to 21 patients with impetigo contagiosa and 1 patient with erysipelas, and its clinical efficacy and safety were assessed. Dexamethasone-isonicotinate aerosol (DIA) was administered to twenty-nine steroid-dependent children with chronic perennial asthma, in an open trial during one year. An attempt was made to withdraw systemic corticosteroid therapy. As judged by clinical results, inhaled dexamethasone-isonicotinate controlled the asthma quite as well as did previous therapy. The results of a clinical trial using a new preparation of Terracortril ointment and Terracortril cream without preservatives are reported. Apart from oxytetracycline 30 mg/g and 10 mg hydrocortisone alcohol/g, each drug contains polymyxin B 10,000 I.U./g. A green, simple and sensitive spectrofluorometric approach for determining vonoprazan fumarate in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage form by turning off the fluorescence of sodium salicylate is developed. The addition of vonoprazan fumarate reduced linearly the fluorescence intensity of 0.4 mM sodium salicylate at λem 408 nm and at λex 330 nm.
