Thoracic spine fracture-dislocation injuries result from significant forces that cause significant morbidity and mortality. In rare instances, there have been cases of associated esophageal injury from bony laceration. Here we report a case esophageal entrapment in a high thoracic distraction injury following a motor vehicle accident.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior elbow dislocation is a rare occurrence, mostly produced by direct trauma to elbow in flexion attitude following fall from height. Posterior dislocation is the commoner entity at the elbow joint, thus rarity of this case incites reporting.
CASE REPORT: A 53-year-old male presented to our outpatient department with complaints of pain, swelling, and inability to move his right upper limb, following fall from height. On examination, no associated neurovascular deficit was found. Radiological investigations confirmed anterior dislocation of elbow joint with medial epicondyle

The surgical treatment of delayed, unstable sub-axial cervical spine injuries is challenging. Multiple treatment regimens have been described in the literature, although there is no consensus regarding the best treatment approach. This report presents a 35-year-old obese woman who experienced a delayed sub-axial fracture-dislocation following a motor vehicle accident (MVA) and was successfully managed after three weeks via pre-operative traction followed by a novel single-surgery, single-approach technique with pedicle screws and tension-band wiring as a reduction method. A 35-year-old obese w

Volar dislocation of the trapezoid is a rare injury and is easily missed. It is more common to have a dorsal dislocation of trapezoid or multiple carpometacarpal joint dislocations. The rare nature of the injury also means that there is little guidance in literature regarding optimal treatment. We are reporting the presentation, management and a 3-year follow-up of this rare injury in a 19-year-old male. Level of Evidence: Level V (Therapeutic).

INTRODUCTION: Concomitant acromioclavicular joint dislocation and midshaft clavicle fracture are rare injuries, generally resulting from high energy trauma, with limited previous experience in management.
CASE: A 30 year old male presented following a pushbike accident. He had suffered a head on collision with another cyclist. Radiographic examination demonstrated a displaced midshaft clavicle fracture with a Rockwood Type V acromioclavicular joint dislocation. Operative management was undertaken using a dual plating technique. At six month follow up the patient demonstrated full range of mot

INTRODUCTION: Monteggia fracture-dislocation refers to traumatic ulnar fractures and dislocation of the radial head, which is one of the most frequently missed injuries, especially in children. The most widespread attitude towards chronic Monteggia lesion is the open reduction of the radial head associated with ulnar osteotomy with or without annular ligament reconstruction. Our study aimed to analyze the risk factors for redislocation after surgical management of chronic Monteggia lesion and the benefits of annular ligament reconstruction and radiocapitellar pinning in paediatric.

A combination of an anterior sternoclavicular (SC) joint dislocation with a midshaft clavicle fracture is an extremely rare injury. If left untreated, it can lead to severely impaired function of the shoulder with a high risk for complications. A 45-year-old male patient presented with pain and impaired range of motion (ROM) in the left shoulder after a mountain bike crash. Radiographs and a computed tomography scan showed an anterior dislocation of the left SC joint and an ipsilateral midshaft fracture of the clavicle. Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the clavicle combined with

RATIONALE: Bilateral posterior fracture-dislocation of the shoulders occurs rarely and the diagnosis is often challenging. This injury is often missed or delayed on initial presentation, leading to continuous pain, disability, and rising medical costs. Timely diagnosis and proper treatment are very important to restore shoulder function.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Here we report 2 rare cases. Case 1 was a 53-year-old physical worker with severe pain and limited shoulder movement after an unexpected fall. Case 2 was a 55-year-old man with pain in upper limbs and shoulders after an electric shock.

OBJECTIVE: To gain a better understanding of the traumatic mechanism and to develop appropriate treatment for dislocation of the shoulder joint with an ipsilateral humeral shaft fracture.
METHODS: This was an observational and descriptive study. Nine patients with traumatic shoulder dislocations associated with ipsilateral humeral shaft fractures who visited the emergency room and received treatment from January 2012 to June 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. CT with three-dimensional reconstruction was performed to provide precise anatomical information of the fractures. The traumatic event

BACKGROUND: Traumatic hip dislocation with or without acetabular fractures can lead to various outcomes of the hip. Long-term follow-up studies on traumatic hip dislocation are few. We conducted a retrospective study of the treatment and long-term outcomes in patients with hip dislocation to determine prognostic factors.
METHODS: From 2001 to 2016, we enrolled 38 patients in our study. All the patients had been diagnosed through radiography or computed tomography. Emergent closed reduction was performed initially. We hypothesized that poor outcomes, including osteonecrosis and traumatic osteo

RATIONALE: Upper pole sleeve fractures of the patella are rare in adolescents; however, they are serious injuries that require early diagnosis and treatment.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We present a rare case of a 15-year-old girl who suffered a sleeve fracture at the superior pole of the right patella. The patient had a history of dislocation of the patella 2 weeks ago. Physical examination showed tenderness on palpation over the upper pole of the patella and absence of active movement of the knee accompanied by swelling and joint effusion. A plain radiograph showed an avulsed fragment of the superior

Acetabular fractures are injuries that require significant force transmission, especially when associated with a femoral head dislocation. The mechanism of injury is typically in the setting of a high-speed motor vehicle collision. In a similar manner, this is an injury that is highly demanding for the orthopaedic trauma surgeon to treat as well. We present a patient who sustained an initial posterior wall acetabular fracture with an associated posterior dislocation. This was treated surgically with open reduction, internal fixation without complication. The patient subsequently sustained a se

A rare case of symmetrical open bimalleolar fractures with bilateral dislocation of ankles is described. A 30-year-old man sustained indirect trauma working in squatting position with a heavy log of wood falling on his knees with ankles in inversion, and sustained symmetrical open III B bimalleolar fractures with dislocation of bilateral ankles with the distal fibula coming out of the skin. The patient underwent operative management on bilateral ankles and the post-operative course was uneventful. The patient had no complaints at 4 years' follow-up and had a full, pain-free function. The proba
