Schwannomas are well characterized uncommon neural neoplasms which may rarely present with variation in clinical manifestation. Oral Schwannomas clinically simulate other lesions like traumatic fibroma, pyogenic granuloma, mucocele and salivary gland lesions. The diagnosis of schwannoma is typically made at the time of surgery following biopsy and surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment with no chances of recurrence as they are well encapsulated. We present a case of schwannoma of lower lip occurring in a 21-year-old female patient.

Acral angioosteoma cutis is a benign lesion of unknown pathogenesis and is a newly described, distinct entity from other cutaneous lesions. It is clinically characterized by an exophytic lesion resembling pyogenic granuloma on the acral skin, combined with histologic findings of multiple tiny spicules composed of woven bone between well-formed capillaries proliferating in the superficial dermis. Here, we present a case of acral angioosteoma cutis on the left third toe of a 58-year-old woman, which was successfully treated by excision.

Masson lesion is characterized by a benign intravascular papillary hyperplasia and subsequent thrombosis. Clinically, this lesion can be misdiagnosed as mucocele, hemangioma, Kaposi sarcoma, angiosarcoma, pyogenic granuloma, and several other lesions. In this article, we report a case of intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia of the hypopharynx and larynx, which caused dysphagia in an 18-year-old female patient. The lesion was excised entirely via a lateral pharyngotomy approach. We discuss the clinical and histopathologic features, differential diagnosis, and treatment of this uncomm

This is a case report of localized aggressive periodontitis associated with unusual gingival enlargement. There was difficulty both clinically and histologically in deciding whether the gingival enlargement was a pyogenic granuloma or a Kaposi sarcoma. The diagnosis of Kaposi sarcoma was eventually ruled out by the failure of immunohistopathological examination to demonstrate the presence of HHV-8 DNA markers, and by the clinical response of the lesions to antimicrobial agents. Once a definitive diagnosis was made, the patient was treated conventionally.

The acquired tufted angioma is a unique, dusky red, vascular proliferation previously reported in the skin, usually developing in childhood or in young adults, which exhibits a distinctive microscopic appearance. Clinically, the condition enlarges at a variable rate, becomes stable and may regress spontaneously. A small, long-standing, vascular lesion of the mucosa of the lower lip, exhibiting microscopic and immunohistochemical features resembling those of acquired tufted angioma, is reported. The differential diagnosis, including pyogenic granuloma, capillary hemangioma and hemangiopericytom

Three cases with characteristic features of nodular (pseudosarcomatous) fasciitis arising in the dermis are described. This is only the second report documenting a dermal location for this condition. One of the three cases also showed features of intravascular fasciitis. A fourth case of intravascular fasciitis arising in periocular tissue is included. The differential diagnosis of dermal fasciitis includes benign fibrous histiocytoma, pyogenic granuloma, peripheral nerve tumors, cutaneous smooth muscle tumours, spindle cell carcinoma, spindle cell melanoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and

Multiple polypoid sessile tumors arose at the tip of the ileal stoma of a 37-year-old man, who previously underwent proctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis. The lesions developed shortly after a well-established gastrointestinal infection with Campylobacter jejuni with mucosal ulceration. The histological and ultrastructural examination showed angiomatous proliferations, reminiscent of pyogenic granuloma. The destruction of the tumors by laser photocoagulation was followed by superficial ulcerations of the mucosa, which healed without scarring. Small recurrences, however, could not be prevented

A summary of the pathophysiology and clinical use of the argon laser in the treatment of cutaneous lesions is presented. The nonionizing blue-green argon laser light is absorbed by pigment, is converted to heat, and selectively destroys specific cutaneous lesions with sparing of adjacent dermal appendages and healing of the laser wound with minimal scarring. Vascular lesions (port wine hemangioma, capillary-cavernous hemangioma, telangiectasia), inflammatory lesions (pyogenic granuloma), nevoid lesions, tattoo lesions, and a variety of miscellaneous lesions have been successfully treated.

Fibro-osseous pseudotumor of the toe is a benign soft tissue tumor that is predominant in the young adult population. Although the etiology is unknown, a history of trauma has been reported to precede tumor development. The differential diagnosis includes myositis ossificans, extraskeletal osteosarcoma, and pyogenic granuloma. Once removed, the tumor typically has no recurrence. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice. We present a patient with fibro-osseous pseudotumor of the great toe, which had no recurrence following excision.

A 42-year-old man presented with a rapidly growing nodule on his right cheek. Except for some itching, it was asymptomatic. The tumor was excised with 3-4 mm safety margin. The clinical differential diagnostic considerations included pyogenic granuloma, amelanotic melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and eccrine poroma. An eccrine poroma is a rare tumor derived from the eccrine sweat gland. Hormonal disturbances, trauma, immunosuppression, actinic damages and radiotherapy have been suggested as possible etiologic factors; however, the exact pathophysiology remains unclear.

Cutaneous metastases may be the first sign of an internal neoplasm; hepatocellular carcinoma is a very rare source of skin involvement and presents with a protean morphology: papules, nodules, and masses that may be by natural sources or by artificial mechanisms. We present a 41-year-old man with hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatic cirrhosis who developed metastatic disease, which in the skin showed as a pyogenic granuloma. We analyze 38 cases from the literature and present a practical review of the subject.

This review provides a comprehensive overview of the broad clinicopathologic spectrum of cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma (KS) lesions. Variants discussed include: usual KS lesions associated with disease progression (i.e. patch, plaque and nodular stage); morphologic subtypes alluded to in the older literature such as anaplastic and telangiectatic KS, as well as several lymphedematous variants; and numerous recently described variants including hyperkeratotic, keloidal, micronodular, pyogenic granuloma-like, ecchymotic, and intravascular KS. Involuting lesions as a result of treatment related regress

A 24-year-old woman had a red mass (2.4 x 1.4 cm) on her left maxillary gingiva (between teeth No. 11 and 12) that interfered with normal occlusion and speech. Although pyogenic granuloma was the clinical diagnosis, histopathologic examination revealed that the lesion was actually focal fibrous hyperplasia with focal mucinosis degeneration. This article illustrates the role of the oral and maxillofacial pathologist in establishing an accurate diagnosis of oral lesions and discusses the differential diagnosis of gingival enlargements.

Nail surgery is frequently done by dermatologists. Post-operative complications of nail surgery include infection, bleeding, pain, pyogenic granuloma, and nail dystrophy. Infectious complications after nail surgery can be prevented with proper aseptic techniques. Standard fenestrated surgical drapes used for a sterile field during nail surgery are cumbersome and difficult to keep in place during surgery. We present a versatile sterile field for nail surgery using a sterile glove that will facilitate nail surgery and concomitantly decrease the risk of infection.

A case of peripheral ameloblastoma in a 57-years-old woman is presented, along with a discussion of the clinical and histological characteristics of the lesion. After clinical and radiographic examinations, and with a differential diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma, an excisional biopsy was performed and the material collected was sent for histological examination. On the basis of the histopathological diagnosis, a second operation was performed with a wide safety margin, including bone tissue, which did not show any involvement with the odontogenic neoplasm.

We report the successful surgical treatment of a 24-year-old male with an aggressive metastasized eccrine poroma. The primary lesion was on the left plantar surface and resembled a pyogenic granuloma. Two months after we excised this lesion, the patient presented with a mass on the left groin, apparently a metastatic occurrence related to the tumor. We performed a radical lymph node dissection with no adjunctive treatment. Five years later, the patient is apparently free of any related disease.

The word "epulis" is a clinical term used to describe a localized growth on the gingiva. Histologic examination of epulides indicates that the vast majority are focal fibrous hyperplasias, peripheral ossifying fibromas, pyogenic granulomas or peripheral giant cell granulomas. Data, derived from a 12-year retrospective study of gingival lesions submitted to the Oral Pathology Diagnostic Service at The University of Western Ontario, are the subject of this paper. The results indicate that the major epulides are common oral lesions with which dentists should be thoroughly familiar. The histologic

Severe oral inflammatory disease is not uncommon in the mouths of canine and feline patients. An approach to oral diagnosis is offered. This article discusses a brief review of important points in the oral diagnosis and management of main canine (canine chronic ulcerative stomatitis (CCUS), eosinophilic stomatitis, and Wegener's granulomatosis (WG)) and feline diseases (feline gingivostomatitis/caudal stomatitis, oral eosinophilic lesions, pyogenic granuloma, and autoimmune diseases with oral manifestations), and-whereby possible-information about the current understanding of disease pathogene

Cutaneous vascular lesions in the pediatric population are rare and may represent a variety of localized and systemic diagnoses with diverse treatment protocols. We present a unique case of an infant with multiple cutaneous vascular lesions, initially diagnosed as congenital disseminated pyogenic granuloma based on histopathologic findings and later diagnosed as multifocal infantile hemangioma with extracutaneous hepatic involvement. The largest vascular lesion in our patient was on the left upper eyelid, which failed medical treatment and ultimately required surgical excision to prevent ambly

Peripheral ameloblastoma, a rare and unusual variant of odontogenic tumour, comprises about 2-10% of all ameloblastomas. The extraosseous location is the peculiar feature of this type of tumour, which is otherwise similar to the classical ameloblastoma. This paper describes a case of peripheral ameloblastoma in a 67-year-old female affecting the lingual alveolar mucosa of the mandibular 32-34 region which was clinically diagnosed as pyogenic granuloma. This paper becomes important due to availability of all data, makeing it a well-documented case.
