We report five patients who developed intraoperative myocardial ischemia but were treated successfully with nicorandil. Case 1; An 84 year-old male underwent emergent laparotomy and ileolysis under inhalational plus thoracic epidural anesthesia. During his emergence from anesthesia, arterial pressure and heart rate increased abruptly due to excitement, leading to ST-T depression on V5 lead. Bradycardia and hypotension developed subsequently. A 64-year-old woman developed a severe embolic cerebral attack with total left hemiplegia approximately 30 hours after cardiac catheterization for mitral stenosis. BACKGROUND: Delta-24-RGD, an oncolytic adenovirus, shows promise against glioblastoma. To enhance virus delivery, we recently demonstrated that human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells loaded with Delta-24-RGD (hMSC-D24) can eradicate glioblastomas in mouse models. There are no studies examining the safety of endovascular selective intra-arterial (ESIA) infusions of MSC-D24 in large animals simulating human clinical situations.

A retrospective chart review of 435 consecutive intracarotid amobarbital tests (IAT) was performed to determine the frequency of carotid artery dissection (CAD) associated with IAT. Three patients with a CAD were found (0.7%). Mean age of patients with dissection (51.3 years) was higher than the average age of 432 patients without dissection (31.7 years) (p < 0.05). All patients had clinical symptoms including face or neck pain. Patients undergoing the IAT are at risk of CAD. Age may be a risk factor.
