Reliability, validity and minimum clinical importance difference of the Chinese version of the Zurich claudication questionnaire.

The Zurich Claudication Questionnaire (ZCQ) has been translated and validated in multiple languages but few people have verified the measurement performance of the Chinese version of Zurich Claudication Questionnaire (Ch-ZCQ). The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of the Ch-ZCQ in lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) patients undergoing non-surgical treatment. It includes the reliability, validity, responsiveness and minimally clinical important difference (MCID) of the two dimensions of symptom severity (SS) and physical function (PF). The results shows that the internal consistency

Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis of the Distal Interphalangeal Joint: A Follow-Up Study of 12 Years After Nonsurgical Treatment of Mallet Finger Fractures.

PURPOSE: In treatment of mallet finger fractures (MFFs), the aim is to minimize residual extension lag, reduce subluxation, and restore congruency of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint. Failure to do so may increase the risk of secondary osteoarthritis (OA). However, long-term follow-up studies focusing on OA of the DIP joint after an MFF are scarce. The purpose of this study was to assess OA, functional outcomes, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) after an MFF. METHODS: A cohort study was performed with 52 patients who sustained an MFF at a mean of 12.1 years (range, 9.9-15.5

Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Disease Course and Long-Term Visual Outcome.

BACKGROUND: Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is an autoimmune disease that classically manifests as attacks of optic neuritis (ON) and transverse myelitis (TM). The prevalence, course, and severity of NMOSD vary considerably. Few studies report the neuro-ophthalmologic disease course and visual outcome. OBJECTIVE: We sought to describe the course and long-term visual outcome in a cohort of NMOSD patients treated in a single tertiary referral center. METHODS: The database was searched for all patients with NMOSD who were treated in our center from 2005 to 2014. Data collected in

Developing a systematic approach for Population-based Injury Severity Assessment (PISA): a million-person survey in rural Bangladesh.

INTRODUCTION: There is currently no defined method for assessing injury severity using population-based data, which limits our understanding of the burden of non-fatal injuries and community-based approaches for primary prevention of injuries. This study describes a systematic approach, Population-based Injury Severity Assessment (PISA) index, for assessing injury severity at the population level. METHODS: Based on the WHO International Classification of Functionality conceptual model on health and disability, eight indicators for assessing injury severity were defined. The eight indicators a

Hearing, Speech, Language, and Communicative Participation in Patients With Apert Syndrome: Analysis of Correlation With Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 2 Mutation.

UNLABELLED: Apert syndrome (AS) is caused by the heterozygous presence of 1 of 2 specific missense mutations of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) gene. The 2 adjacent substitutions, designated p.Ser252Trp (S252W) and p.Pro253Arg (P253R), account for more than 98% of cases. Previous research has identified elevated hearing difficulties and incidence of cleft palate in this population. However, the influence of FGFR2 genotype on the speech, language, and communicative participation of children with AS has yet to be examined. METHODS: A retrospective case note analysis was complete

The clubfoot assessment protocol (CAP); description and reliability of a structured multi-level instrument for follow-up.

BACKGROUND: In most clubfoot studies, the outcome instruments used are designed to evaluate classification or long-term cross-sectional results. Variables deal mainly with factors on body function/structure level. Wide scorings intervals and total sum scores increase the risk that important changes and information are not detected. Studies of the reliability, validity and responsiveness of these instruments are sparse. The lack of an instrument for longitudinal follow-up led the investigators to develop the Clubfoot Assessment Protocol (CAP). The aim of this article is to introduce and describ

Diagnosis of Hypophosphatasia in Adults Presenting With Metatarsal Stress Fracture: Proof-of-Concept for a Case-Finding Strategy.

Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is caused by loss-of-function mutations in ALPL resulting in decreased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. Metatarsal stress fracture (MSF) is a common clinical feature of hypophosphatasia in adults. In this study, the primary objectives were to determine whether new cases of ALPL variants could be identified in patients with MSF and who also had serum ALP concentration below the reference range and to phenotype their clinical course. Electronic health records were queried for adult patients with MSF using International Classification of Disease codes (ICD-9, ICD-10CM)
