The role of colonoscopy in the management of 100 cases of suspected large bowel tumour is described. Forty out of 47 patients with an equivocal barium enema examination were satisfactorily examined and the possibility of a tumour being present was either confirmed or refuted. Examination of 30 patients with otherwise unexplained blood loss from the bowel revealed the cause in 50 per cent of them. Twenty-nine patients had pedunculated polyps which were snared and removed, thus avoiding laparotomy and colotomy. Seventeen cases of colorectal polyps in the dog were seen at the Ontario Veterinary College over a 12-year period. The mean age of occurrence was 6.9 years, and males and females were almost equally affected. The Collie was the most frequently affected breed (4/17). The clinical signs were typically dyschezia, periodic intermittent diarrhea and melena, and rectal prolapse of the polyp. A 10-month-old boy had episodes of apparent colic with bloody diarrhea. On investigation after prolapse of a rectal mass, a pedunculated polyp was found and removed by transanal ligation. The abdominal pain had been caused by the polyp intussuscepting the sigmoid colon into the rectum. Although rectal bleeding in children under age 1 is rarely caused by rectal polyps, physicians should consider this diagnosis in children of any age when recurrent colic and blood-streaked diarrhea occur.

A 12 year-old boy suffering from Behçet's syndrome with an anal complication was presented. He had several anal ulcers with surrounding polypoid proliferations. Operative treatment and local application of steroid hormone to anal ulcer failed, whereas the general administration of steroid hormone improved his allover state so that the anal lesion almost completely healed. Dose of steroid hormone was gradually tapered off and finally stopped without any signs of recurrence. Anal ulcer seems to represent a rare complication of Behçet's syndrome.

Five case histories of patients with fibrous inflammatory polyps of the ileocecum are reported. Clinical impression in all five cases was that these tumefactions represented gastrointestinal malignancies. A rare case of concomitance of Menetrier's disease and malignant polyp of the rectum in a 53-year old man is described. The clinical and pathologic features of 33 pseudomalignant lesions of the gastrointestinal tract with bizarre stromal cells are reported. Deceptive histologic changes were identified in ulcers of seven patients and in inflammatory polyps of 26. A misdiagnosis of malignant neoplasm was made in six of the 33 patients (three polyps and three ulcers). A history of gastrointestinal bleeding and/or inflammatory bowel disease was common. The clinical manifestations of Gardner's syndrome were studied in 280 patients from 11 families. Forty-five per cent of the patients at risk inherited the syndrome. Forty-one patients had carcinoma of the intestine develop, with only a 27 per cent survival rate for this type cancer.
