Triple gallbladder represents a rare congenital anatomical abnormality that can be a diagnostic challenge in reason to its rarity and consequential difficulties with diagnosis and identification. A systematic review of all published literature between 1958 and 2022 was performed. We identified 20 previous studies that provided 20 cases of triple gallbladder; our case was also included in the analysis, making a total of 21 patients. All patients underwent on diagnostic imaging examinations. After 1985, 9 patients underwent US examination which allowed prompt recognition of triple gallbladder in

Tracheobronchial mucoepidermoid tumors (METs) typically occur in the head and neck region but rarely in the trachea and lung. They are salivary-type tumors that arise from the glandular component of the tracheobronchial epithelium. The most common type, mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) has histological features that overlap with more aggressive lung carcinomas such as adenosquamous carcinoma. It is important to realize the histological features and limitations of a diagnostic biopsy. This case illustrates this point where an initially diagnosed lung adenocarcinoma turns out to be MEC. We report

After more than a decade, an accurate description of the current state of pediatric inguinal hernia repair still an issue of contention. Improvement of techniques together with patient-entered intervention that account for the experiences related to individual disease characteristics have become an important factor of which the surgeon must be aware. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze a potential treatment for metachronous contralateral inguinal hernia (MCIH) in children during laparoscopic assisted percutaneous internal inguinal ring suturing (PIRS). In a prospective clinical stud

BACKGROUND Gerbode defect is a defect that communicates the left ventricle (LV) to the right atrium (RA). Although it was originally identified as a congenital defect, it is becoming more common accepted that the lesion has either an iatrogenic or non-iatrogenic origin. In this article, the author presents an unusual diverticulated appearance of direct Gerbode defect in an adult patient without any prior history of cardiac pathology and the surgical technique used, hoping to increase awareness of similar cases. CASE REPORT A 46-year-old man presented with worsening shortness of breath and fati

BACKGROUND: Double coronary artery is a rare anomaly with just a few cases reported in the literature. This anomaly started being reported recently with the wide use of coronary angiography. Before the advent of advanced imaging and catheterization facilities most of the available data came from the work of anatomists. Two patients were recently operated in our department. In the first patient the preoperative coronary angiography showed two right coronary arteries. In the second patient a double ostium of the right coronary artery was encountered intraoperatively. We wanted to know the incide

PURPOSE: Periprosthetic fractures after hip prosthesis represent a constantly increasing clinical problem and a challenging complication to treat surgically. Among these, type B proximal femur fractures should be diagnosed correctly to be treated surgically. The aim of this study was to re-evaluate the type of surgical treatment of periprosthetic fractures.
METHODS: We examined the cases treated between January 2012 and February 2018, classifying them according to the U.C.S. AO/OTA. We evaluated the radiographic outcome according to the Beals and Tower criteria. Patients still alive were also

BACKGROUND: Cholesterol granuloma (CG) is a rare entity but is the commonest lesion in the petrous apex. They are associated with chronic ear disease and previous temporal bone surgery. While bone wax has been known to cause foreign body reaction due to its non-resorbable property in the mastoid, it has not been documented to cause CG formation.
CASE PRESENTATION: We described a 43 years old male who presented with a right mastoid swelling, nine years after a right retro-sigmoid craniotomy and excision for a cerebellopontine angle meningioma. He also had multiple cranial neuropathies involvin

RATIONALE: Mobile schwannomas have been rarely reported in the lumbar and thoracic spine. These entities are usually intradural extramedullary involving less than 3 vertebrae. Here, we present a rare case of thoracic schwannoma moving over 4 vertebral levels from the primary site combined with intraosseous schwannomas.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 64-year-old woman presented with back pain for several months.
DIAGNOSES: Preoperative computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed 2 intraosseous tumors at the T7 and T8 levels and an intradural extramedullary tumor at the T5-6 leve

Background With the growing use of metallic implants, increased research has focused on metal hypersensitivity. The purpose of this case report is to describe a patient with a suspected metal allergy to a titanium plate and to review the literature behind this controversial topic. Case Description A 45-year-old woman underwent ulnar shortening osteotomy for ulnocarpal abutment. One year later, the patient continued to have chronic pain at the site of the implant, with negative work-up for infection, hardware loosening, or failure. During hardware removal, intraoperative findings revealed tit

INTRODUCTION: Inguinoscrotal hernias of the ureter are an extremely rare phenomenon. They can pose a threat to the unprepared general surgeon performing routine herniorrhaphy.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 72 year old man presented with a one year history of a lump in the left groin causing occasional discomfort. On examination a partially reducible left sided inguinal hernia was found. He had no urinary symptoms and was otherwise fit and healthy. He had a right inguinal hernia similar to this repaired 20 years ago.
DISCUSSION: Intraoperatively the patient had a large sliding inguinoscrotal hernia

Degenerative disc disease (DDD) is highly prevalent. If conservative treatment fails, spinal fusion procedures are commonly performed. Total disc replacement (TDR) might be a surgical option for a distinct subset of patients with DDD. Several prostheses have been or are still available. Despite some promising initial clinical results, there is still limited experience with hardware-related adverse events. This report highlights an unreported complication after TDR with a viscoelastic device. Literature about long-term outcome and safety of this particular TDR is scarce. Hence, there exists lim

Our case describes an innocuous snowball fight arising into a life-threatening condition. Patient with progressive left-sided abdominal pain was brought by ambulance to the hospital. According to history he was not aware of any trauma, just a snowball fight with his wife 5 days ago. Clinical examination finding was: hint of peritoneal irritation, Kehr´s sign and left-subchondrium palpation pain. The spleen trauma suspicion was high. After clinical examination an ultrasound examination was performed, revealing inhomogeneous structure of the spleen surrounded by hypoechoic collection and free fl

INTRODUCTION: Corrections of spinal deformities have been associated with a potential of postoperative vessel-originating complications. Reports of occlusions of celiac artery seem though to be very rare.
CASE REPORTS: We present two cases that developed acute arterial supply impairment and subsequent liver and gastric necrosis due to an occlusion of celiac artery, after a spine deformity correction. In both patients a lateral surgical approach to the superior lumbar spine, lateral placement of cages and then a subsequent posterior fixation were performed.

INTRODUCTION: Transabdominal preperitoneal endoscopic hernia repair (TAPP) is part of primary surgical health care. While both, the reported recurrence rate and procedure specific morbidity are consistently low, rare serious complications occur.
PRESENTIATION OF CASE: A 36-year-old male patient developed bowel obstruction three days after both-sided TAPP for inguinal hernia repair. A computer tomography scan of the abdomen revealed a small bowel volvulus in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen requiring urgent revisional surgery. Intraoperatively, the small bowel and its mesenterial vessel

Human cystic echinococcosis (hydatidosis) is a parasitic zoonosis with almost complete worldwide distribution. Echinococcus granulosus, the dog tapeworm, causes hydatidosis which accounts for 95% of human echinococcosis. Although this tapeworm is found in dogs as a definitive host and a number of intermediate hosts, humans are often infected from close contact with infected dogs. Humans are not part of the parasitic lifecycle and serve as accidental hosts. Hydatidosis is an important consideration in the differential diagnosis of hepatic cysts in individuals from endemic areas. Clinicians shou

Simple liver cysts are common, rarely causing significant morbidity or mortality. Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) is caused by obstruction of hepatic venous outflow and is the leading cause of postsinusoidal liver failure. We present a rare case of BCS caused by a simple hepatic cyst. A 16 cm × 16 cm liver cyst was found on computed tomography of a 66-year-old woman presenting with abdominal pain. The cyst had become infected, thus enlarged, exerting mass effect with almost complete compression of the inferior vena cava. Shortly after admission, the patient developed acute liver failure, with deran

INTRODUCTION: Hospitalists are frequently consulted on postoperative patients with hypotension. Postoperative hypotension is common and can be due to variety of causes. Systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve leading to left ventricular outflow tract obstruction is a rare cause of postoperative hypotension and can occur without prior structural heart disease. A high index of suspicion can lead to early recognition of this unique condition.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 90-year-old Caucasian woman with no known structural heart abnormality was admitted to the intensive care unit with hypotension a
