Ectoparasitic arthropods are often vectors of rickettsiosis. We conducted a survey of ectoparasites on U.S. military facilities throughout Japan with the use of specimens submitted by pest control, public health, and veterinary personnel. BACKGROUND: Recently, the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) developed glomerular filtration rate (GFR)-estimating equations based on standardized serum cystatin C (CKD-EPI(cys)) and standardized serum creatinine plus standardized serum cystatin C (CKD-EPI(cr-cys)). We developed new GFR-estimating equations based on standardized cystatin C for a Japanese population and compared their accuracy with the CKD-EPI equations.

Trichophyton rubrum var. raubitschekii is a rare anthropophilic dermatophyte isolated around the world from tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis and tinea unguium. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is caused by the failure of neuromuscular transmission mediated by autoantibodies against acetylcholine receptors (AChR) and muscle-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (MuSK). BACKGROUND: Undue parental fear of fever in children was termed "fever phobia" by Schmitt following a survey in the USA in 1980. In 2000, Crocetti et al. conducted the same survey and concluded that fever phobia existed even 20 years later. We report a patient in Japan infected with Cryptococcus gattii genotype VGIIa who had no recent history of travel to disease-endemic areas. This strain was identical to the Vancouver Island outbreak strain R265. Our results suggest that this virulent strain has spread to regions outside North America.

A retrospective study was performed on primary cardiac tumors found in 44 cattle during meat inspection in Japan, using histology, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopy.
